What a Gig | Reviewer: loonie on the path | 4/18/13
Decades of listening to the Dark Side brings me to my thought that the Great Gig is the premier female vocal of all time. It is arousing, touching, and slightly eerie. What a combination. The more I listen to it the more I like it, never gets old.
Amazing song | Reviewer: sara | 8/19/12
I heard this song once as a kid, and it was so eerie to me, Ididn't really know what to make of it. (I was six at the time) Five years later, I became a huge Pink Floyd fan and rediscovered the song. I gave it another shot, and it was just... wow. It was a whole new experience for me. I paid the song a little more attention to the song as I matured (same year) and I listened to what the man was saying. 'I'm not frightened of dying...' and then it all made sense. This is the sound of death. That sudden release of emotion, stress, worry. That moment when it all disappears. I never looked at the song or death the same way again. This song has definitely changed my life.
Perfection | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/5/10
This song defines it, not only does it capture the listener with the overwhelming feeling of death, it also combines the vocals of an incredibly talented singer (Clare Torry) along with masterfully combined instrumentals and sound effects.
PS: for those who know the story of the singer apologizing, its actually because she recorded 12 takes of the song, which were edited and pieces taken out and compiled to the final cut, she believed she did a bad job. This song was not all one straight recording.
and it's reflected in your character, if you're afraid of dying.... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/5/10
i'm afraid of dying; i won't lie to myself (how can i?) but i listened to this in a time of great internal struggles and (even though i do not share in the nostalgia that is pink floyd for i've never heard of the band before) i believe this song really hit the "dark side of the moon" with pure raw emotional power. thank you pink floyd for this song.
The Great Gig In The Sky | Reviewer: Mike H | 1/16/09
This is by far one of the most intense songs i have ever listened to, Amazing vocals, great instrumental. I cant believe that the woman who sung this apologized after singing it. absolutely incredible.
it's like being in the dark side of the moon.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/2/08
in my opinion the whole story of pink floyd can be reducted to this song. is a kind of glorius, epic,a has a litle of this pain that we feel when we remember syd, the fights between the musicians and now the left of the great richard wright, i really hope him to reast in peace, nothing's gonna be the same..we'll se him there...in the dark side of the moon..
THE great gig in the sky | Reviewer: NEIL LENET | 6/29/07
In reading some old articles about pink floyd after waters left, one of the things that keeps popping up is waters astronomical ego, and his inhumanity to richard wright. In my opinion, all one needs to do is listen to great gig and ALL the keyboards in floyds music to recognize the gem that is richard. For me, he was the pink floyd sound, period.Daves guitar is awesome obviously, and Nick mason is a good drummer, but richard's sound is the heart of pink floyd. It seems to me that the more control waters took, the albums became a little less spiritual and heartfelt. Just my humble opinion. Neil.
