Rodger did say that shine on was made cheifly with syd in mind, his insanity and absence. (The major theme of the album) Wish you were here ( the song) was written to be about anybody, but shine on was for syd.

Some people might just like Dark Side better even though they have heard this album a thousand times as well. I personally don't even have a favourite album.

Also, you talk loud, but this song is not really about Syd Barrett being insane. It is partly about people losing their mind, something Syd Barrett did indeed do. So yes, partly it is about people like Syd, but not about Syd in particular.

Okay this song kicks ass but how can any of you say its your favorite unless it has specific meaning to you? all of thier albums and songs are the best ever to emerge in music. pink floyd is a ban that will last for the rest of human existence. keep on rocking lets hope for one last show in the states from the last 3 remaing members.

This song is one of the best and is on the best album by Pink Floyd.

I hate it when people always mention Dark Side of the Moon as their favorite cause it means they never listened to this album at all.

Sure Dark Side of the Moon is a good album and so is The Wall however I still think that Wish You Were Here is one of their best.

as to what the song is about, well DUH. Its about one of the band mates being insane. Ya have probably heard of him if you know anything at all about Pink Floyd, ya know, Syd Barrett.

Worst part is that I must be insane cause I understand this song too well.

Is amazing, breathtakingly beautiful, the guitar solo in the beginning always tears me to shreds, and parts 1-9 together make an amazing story. In my opinion this truely is the greatest Pink Floyd song, as much as I love Time, I have to say it. And greatest Pink Floyd album. It truely is some of their best works, amazing put together. Rest In Peace Syd Barrett, shine on you crazy diamond.

As it was said this song is sadly underrated in light of it's counter part (pt 1-5). But it was definitely what cemented my love for the band and their music. I like listening to all 9 parts together using a fader to bring up the beginning of part 6 including the wind noise from the conclusion of Wish You Were Here.
Dark Side of the Moon might been their best selling album (and I love it) but IMO "Wish You Were Here" is probably their greatest album and Shine On You Crazy Diamond their greatest song.

this a more underrated song
its true that it pales in the sight of its more famous brother (part1)
but the guitar solos rock!
and this song in my opinion is as good as part 1!
