The Reviews about Learning to fly (page 3/ 4)
------ performed by Pink Floyd

Poetic, Justice | Reviewer: Don | 1/31/08

I tend to agree with one of the reviews I read quite a bit... These songs mean different things to different people. That's the way it's supposed to be. I feel that when Pink Floyd does a song, it always comes together musically and lyrically into poetry with purpose. I believe Roger and David can tell a story that means one thing to them, in such a way that's so vague yet seems to talk to the story inside so many people. My son actually told me a friend at school thinks Comfortably Numb is about a trip to the dentist. The point is that unless you know the writer, and what he is really talking about, who are we to say it's not about the dentist? Master story tellers that can provoke such thought and self examination to try to find meaning are rare and these guys are the masters!

Music is so powerful | Reviewer: Jess | 9/10/07

In response to 'it's all about flying...love suicide pain...come on people....
Music is art - and like all other art, it speaks to different people differently in different situations.
If you are in the middle of school, say trade school, and feeling like your not going to make it, and hear this song, it can become symbolism.. speaking to you - you are 'learning to fly, condition grounded, but determined to try'..
It can speak to you. If it's done right, and Floyd almost always does it right, it can morph in your spirit..and make you feel different things at different times.
'Lost in the Translation' is the title of a song I'm writing..talking about how a song can be anythin you want ...the same song can make you laugh on MOnday, and weep on Wedsnday - whatever you feel when hearing a song, is right - let it speak to you - and carry it with you.

My Life !! | Reviewer: Mayank Baveja | 7/19/07

This song reminds me of my past life...and what i have to do at present...
Reminds me of days when i was f***ed up and had no hope...looking back...i see that i have always been learning to fly...fighting back...to stay alive...
Give me hope and strenght to carry on...!!
Thanks David...for writing such a song...means a lot to me...

It's about aviation | Reviewer: Danner | 6/20/07

This song is purely about aviation. It is written by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. He is an avid pilot and he said that this song expresses his thoughts of flying.

The drummer, Nick Mason, is also a pilot and his voice can be heard in the middle of the song in a real communication with Air Traffic Control.

It clearly expresses the desires and passion for flight, and also the difficulties of overcoming the mechanics of the airplane. This is shown in the video, which combined performances of the band with a Native American working in a field and then runs and jumps a cliff to turn into a hawk. The original video depicts the Indian plus a factory worker who turns into an airplane pilot and a child who breaks free from his mother and dives off a cliff into a deep river and swims.

Well, all these are said by David Gilmour himself. Go search if you have doubts.

So, love, suicide, pain, drugs? Seriously, people...

The best song ever | Reviewer: Tanner Dusk | 6/15/07

I enjoyed listening to your song. It reveals emotions that seem to carry me to the deep sky.
It also reminds me a God's great passionate love, and it makes me very happy. I think everyone would enjoy this song because it has great meaning to it.

Keep reaching for those stars Gaz | Reviewer: fistpittingnork | 5/25/07

I agree with Robbe, and to add another:

I also sometimes translate it into a message of having that 1 dream that towers above all others, stay determined and you will be rewarded with that dream with a payoff that compares to nothing else in this world, whatever that dream may be.
