This song floats you in the aether. I get the same feeling from this song that got when I first heard Vapour Trail by Ride and Deluxe by Lush.
I really like the post from "Mythology". I think when you put your own interpretation on the lyrics it give you a deeper connection to the music. Its definitely not wrong.

Tied Up | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/22/09

One of my favorite songs by Pinback. Just a note though, there is an error in these lyrics. The line "its a travesty" is incorrect. The line is "Is it Dropsy?". Dropsy is a common goldfish disease which causes the fishes to bloat up to the point where their scales stick out. Not only am I a huge Rob Crow fan, but I also worked in an aquarium store for 5 years. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. :)

gold fish | Reviewer: ROB | 8/16/08

its not about a girl on life support! its about his gold fish! his gold fish died when someone dropped pizza in the fish bowl. you people are too damn deep. have you ever heard of a girl with red scales? i think not.

"Don’t wanna see you floating upside down
On the top of the bowl when I
Come round to visit you
Don’t wanna see you floating upside down"

Death | Reviewer: Justin | 6/23/08

i think this song is about a girl on life support. he talks about feeling the rain. feeling life. and how he hates seeing her struggle. and basically just how he hates watching her die. jsut a thought

title for review goes hurr. | Reviewer: grace slick | 3/21/08

this is amazing. this is how i feel about my Gustavo and Henri.... i got them @ the fair. i won them! i loved them, but i had no idea if they were comfortable or not, and everyday id come home with fingers twist, hoping that they werent belly up. and that they were still swimming in their tank, and id feed them and they grow and grow...til one day i came home, they were happy swimming about, Gustavo, the smaller spotted one, swimming kinda tilteda, and i was like naw im tripping. And i left the room to get some grub. and like he *sniffles yeah.... :[ and idk why but like i loved my babies. and goldfish are fuckn cute, pinback is awesome and this song is cute. henri got flushed too. i havent moved on. . . . but yeah goldfish are cool, theyre my nigguhs and even tho they have a like a 3 sec attention span i love them, theyre good friends...

destructiveness | Reviewer: lilbur | 2/15/08

This song is so amazing. Think about it. Just sit down and think about it. It is the most beautiful song Pinback has created. It makes me feel like I'm floating around adventerously. I saw them about a few months ago and they perform it even better. They are such a badass band! I first thought this song was about a girl. Not a goldfish. This is amazing. The lyrics and I might add the bass player is very talented. filled with beautiful beautiful emotions to my brain.

Yay | Reviewer: Liz | 1/13/08

I can't believe I finally found this song. I've been looking for it for years, and since the only place I'd ever heard it was on a now defunct local radio station, I'd pretty much given up hope of ever finding it again.

Mythology | Reviewer: Marcus | 1/7/08

I thought this song was about penelope from mythology. Penelope is the wife of Odysseus. Odysseus leaves for the trojan war on a "galleon" and penelope waits for him for twenty years. She has many courtships and promises to marry one of them once she finishes knitting a funeral shroud or something like that. She knits every day and every day she un-does the work she did that day so that she can keep waiting for Odysseus. He wants to get back to her, "treading water with his oars", but he can't. Odysseus built their home around a tree so that water would leak in the hole in the roof..."take you to the forest, let you feel the raindrops...". Odysseus doesn't want to come back and find his wife dead or remarried. Just a thought. *shrug*

blah | Reviewer: Sean | 1/6/08

The song, directly relating to his fish Penelope, i think is also just a greater analogy relating to a self destructive girl. dont wanna see you floating upside down, talking about the girl, finally dying or something such as. it might even be the self desctructiveness of a substance abuser. eliminate your need for water, fish need water, substance abusers need there substance, could be an analogy. this is just how i percieve it, and makes me think of a girl every time i hear it.
