FATHER | Reviewer: J.D. | 2/21/09

This month my father would have celebrated his 90th birthday. He died in 2000, 6 days before his 82nd. It wasn't until now that I discovered this short, but powerful tribute to the heroes gone by. Dad did nothing spectacular in his lifetime other than raise and provide for my mom, myself, and 3 brothers. No medals, no acolades, no achievements that would warrant attention. There were times when we fought, and there were times when I thought I hated him. It took a long time (and some help) to realize I resented him for not being around, He worked 3 jobs for as long as I can remember to take care of his family, guiding me "his own way". That's all he knew. He and mom were married for 62 years. I am a father myself now, and my son is a singer/songwriter. I only hope he feels what Eddie felt in this piece, when I am gone! Thanks E.V. and Pearljam!

Pay it Forward | Reviewer: bill farmer | 2/2/09

When I was told I was going to be a Father, I was 19 and was completely overwhemned by the responsibilities I now had. I wished I had been taking notes when I was a kid listening to my Father. He seemed so wise and always taught me in a gentle caring way. I thought I could never be as good a man as he is, yet, my kids who are adults with kids of their own say I am a good Father. Pay it forward and be the best Father you can be. Those kids grow up fast.

Man of the Hour | Reviewer: Tyler Scott | 8/21/08

Every time I listen to this piece of Eddie's soul, I slow down and my focus shifts from hustle and bustle to whats really important. It seems most people never really know what they have until they lose it.

Thank you Eddie for such an amazing song | Reviewer: sue | 7/12/08

My father is dying. He has had a long incredible life. Pilot in WWII,traveled the world, radio dj, race car driver, writer/journalist, speech writer for Reagan while he was Gov. of CA, and as he semi retired an amazing model plane builder(not the plastic boxed ones, beautiful intricate balsa wood and tissue paper). I have loved and hated my father. I want to have a friend of mine play and sing this song at his "celebration of life". I love this song and it will always make me feel we never really know our parents, but they are part of our history. Thanks Eddie. What a beautiful and amazing song.

tribute to a brave, strong and fine young man. | Reviewer: anonymus | 6/29/08

My younger brother took his own life 18 months ago after suffering from schizophrenia for 10 years. He was 25 years old. Playing his guitar was his relief from his mental pain. Pearl Jamb were 'his' band and it wasn't until after he died that I listened to and read the lyrics to all of Pearl Jambs songs did I realise why. The songs were like a book written about his 10 year journey while suffering a disease which most people have little understanding of, a disease which mentally tormented him and broke his heart. My brothers and sisters and I made a request to a catholic priest to play this song at the end of the church service.
The priest knew my young brother well but was also known not to have any other songs played in his church other than hymns. He listened to the song and was very touched and agreed with our request. The emotion and atmosphere this song created at the end of the church service as we carried my baby brother from the church were so overwhelming and unforgetable. The tears were tears of pride for knowing a brave, beautiful, strong hearted and fine young man. To my family and I, this song is Jamie's song......

My heart cry | Reviewer: vans la fille | 3/23/08

I cannot sleep and I listen this song since one month because my father was very sick. Now he died and I cry and cry. I want to play this song to church for him. My father was... man of the hour. I had a big heart. I love you dad.

i first heard this song when my friend played it for me on his ipod. he told me that they had played this song at his grandfather's funeral and that it meant a lot to him.

i lost it. i honestly couldn't stop crying and this song got to me. it cut me up listening to it and i was a wreck at the end of it.

and it was the same at the end of big fish when the credits started rolling i'd lost it again.

this song is amazing.
:)

Thanks Pearl Jam | Reviewer: Gen-Xr | 2/8/08

A year ago I held my grandfather's hand as he died in a hospital. People came from all over the country to attend his funeral. The stories of his exploits and accomplishments are the stuff of legend (and laughter). He truly was a Big Fish. When I listen to Man of the Hour, I feel like it was written just for him. I guess that's what makes the song so great, it feels personal and yet it speaks to everyone.

Thanks Eddie.

See ya soon Grampa.
