My little brother was like the whole light to the family, when he was taking from us so out of the blue, I swear the Earth Cried too. Being Native we believe in the reasons and the why even if we don't want to see it at the time of such a heartbreaking moment. Matt was the kind of person that you wish for in life, and we had him in our family. He was born on Thanksgiving and was killed the year it would have been his brithday again on Thanksgiving, I can't help but cry when I type cause it still hurts soo much. He was no angel but he was a Real Person, never changed if you met him once and he liked you he made you a friend for life.This song feel like it was writing for him, more than likely he saw Pearl Jam sing it, since he went to see them when ever they were in California or Vegas, in fact he came home one time and told me Eddie was a cool dude,as he met him in a casino they were gambling. I didn't hear this song till after as I was going thru his music, as I heard it, it meshed right in with all I could remember about the crash, the funeral, and the site. It's a good thing, its good to cry, and its good to remember good people. Remember to live.

Actually, Eddie wrote this song to me when I wrote him a note answering a radio interview he had done. In the interview he stated that a certain song he had written may have not "necessarily" been about me. On the note I wrote a star name that has great signifigance to me, because it is more important than chasing fame like he does. I think he always wondered why I never took his bait. Mr. Vedder is not so secretive after all.

Light Years is one of the best Pearl Jam songs to me, and it means a lot to me. He sings about his girlfriend who passed away; therfor there's so much feeling in his voice. It's so beautiful, it almost makes me cry...

The great thing about Pearl Jam lyrics is that they can be very personal and reflect your own personal experiences. This song makes me think of the one true love of my life, who is no longer in my life. I'm glad she was though.

i think this is very well written and touching song. I have come to expect meaningful lyrics from Mr. Vedder and pearl jam over the years. It is open to many interpretations. Whatever it means to different people, i think most would agree on its significance
