The Reviews about Crazy Mary (Victoria Williams) (page 1/1)
------ performed by Pearl Jam

Funny how words remind us all | Reviewer: Phil | 4/6/2008

These lyrics remind me of a lady who lived near me. People thought she was strange and would taunt her whenever they saw her. Although I never joined in, I never spoke up for her. Some years later she died and when they emptied her house they found all the memories of her dead daughter. Made me realise and others that everyone has a history and experiences that make the way they are. To this day I wish I could have had the courage to speak up at the injustice. Changed my life forever. Pearl Jam capture it perfectly. I will never forget her and will always defend anyone who needs help now.

I love the song. Great tune, great lyrics, and easy for those not vocally gifted to sing along with. My 11 year old son likes it too and wanted me to clarify the lyrics "mercy backed outside" and "bare bulb blown." Now we know what to sing there. He points out the irony of the sign with the congregated crowd to his friends.

My Mother | Reviewer: Tori | 11/23/2007

This song reminds me of my mother. My mother was a wierd person and she would sit at the kitchen with a smoke in one hand and a bottle in the other playing this song over and over again....

My Mother Drank Herself To Death And When My Older Sister Found Her The Song Crazy Mary Was Playing And She Was Lying On The Floor With An Empty Bottle Beside Her.

Crazy (Beautiful) Mary | Reviewer: George | 8/1/2007

Whenever I hear this song, I think about this old black lay I met years ago outside of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. I was driving around taking photographs and came upon her little house on the side of the road. It a small shack, but throughout the yard, she had these incredible painted images of divine images. She had literally turned her home place into an altar. It was amazing. I asked her if I could photograph the images and her, and she agreed. But I also realized she wasn't all there. But the strange thing was even though she was addled, there was this incredible beauty within her weathered frame. She took me inside her little shack to look around, and I can remember the feeling of peace and serenity that I felt while in there. I still have the photographs of her that I took more than 20 years ago. For me, Mary embodied some "crazy wisdom" that was beyond me, but when I hear Pearl Jam's great version Williams beautiful song, I'm reminded of my own "Crazy (Beautiful) Mary."

This song is my favorite by PJ. It reminds my of a girl when I was in high school. I never spoke to her, but I always wanted to. Now that it's been 13 years later I wonder about her and how she is today.
