Lyrics | Reviewer: Mike | 1/10/12

Forgive me if this is redundant (I only read the first page of posts) but line two is "were laid spread out before me," not "her legs spread out before me." Easy mistake- did it myself for quite a time before getting gently corrected by a kind friend...

As for a "review" - that is beyond my ability, and I could never do it justice. Suffice to say that it moves me like few can, connecting me memories both beautiful and agonizing.

melody alone (BLACK CHOSE ME) | Reviewer: polillan | 12/12/11

i am lyric-deaf most of the time weird though i can only hear the melodies + music of most of the song out there. the intro alone is full of emotion.
i can't recall exactly when i first hear this song.
i was maybe 9 or TEN y/o that time. it was not until i was 20 that i care to research about the lyrics of this song. i cant relate with the words but it feels like something inside me recognizes it, keeps on haunting me every time i hear it.
then came 2007, we won second place on a local ROCKoUSTIC Competition we perform BLACK as our english song cover. i play the guitar, and my brother do the vocals.
i am turning 30 now and this song makes me feel TEN y/o again.
i am still wondering what's with this song.
then i read something that says "...sometimes you choose the music, sometimes the music choose you..."
now i have an idea, maybe BLACK CHOSE ME. lol

another song from these artists i recommend: PARACHUTE
this time i choose it. but im not really sure. lol

TEN | Reviewer: patasv | 9/5/11

I'm 43 now, but I am a proud owner of the 1st release of the TEN album, what? 20 + years old CD, yes I am so proud of that, but, Black caught from the very 1st time that I listen this PJ release, I was sit on my room with a full daylight around , a beautiful afternoon feeling all this electricity on my soul, Black can be one the best top ten songs ever.

just one of those songs... | Reviewer: hybrid | 6/30/11

"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky, but why, why, why?"

those lyrics has tormented me for years, and still does to this very day...
life tales of long lost love...thank you PJ

Great song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/28/11

I laughed when I read the review from the 18 year old.. I am 64, yes! SIXTY FOUR. I love this Pearl Jam song.. I admit, I had to ask my daughter who did this song but from the first tim I heard it, I loved it. I grew up with the Beatles, the Stones, Pink Floyd etc. but still love new music, after all, good music covers generations.. So if you see a "little old lady" riding by, blasting Black, dont laugh too hard. :-)

Masterpiece | Reviewer: Schmitty | 10/11/10

I am 40 years old. I bought the "TEN" album when it came out and was blown away. It has stood the test of time with me to this day. "Black" is an amazing song because everyone can relate to it. It is sang with such raw emotion that you cant help but get pulled in right from the get go. And the finish is just an enourmous release of emotional anguish that reaches your very soul. "I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky but why,.. why,.. why,.. can't it be,.. can't be in mine. " Definetly my all time favorite pearl jam song. If you know anybody in your life that has not heard this song, do them a favor and play it for them.

How? | Reviewer: Chris | 7/24/10

How on earth do you write a song so amazing? I swear if this song were a single it would have been in the top 5 most popular songs ever. I love this song so much and I can relate to it. I listen to it at least 20 times a day. I hope to be a musician some day and this song keeps me humble. I know I could never write something this great!

Hands down, the best | Reviewer: bh | 2/9/10

This is easliy one of the greatest songs ever written. This song plays at my house at least 10 times a week. I play it for my 2 1/2yr old little girl, and she often asks why Im upset and I say Im not, Im happy! but this songs just pulls all the emotion out of us all. And i want her to grow up hearing this song just so she knows what music really is !...

The flood gates broken | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/20/09

This is one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs...it's been so long since I've sat down and listened to the album, but I am right now. I went to see my fave local band tonight and they covered this song. How ironic is it that as they start playing Black, the girl I gave all my heart and soul to walks in with the guy she hooked up with after me...and sat right behind me before seeing me... my soul aches still... my long lost love that didn't come home one day and I don't know why almost 3 years later. Maybe I'm a fool, but I miss her so much.

their best work | Reviewer: Kabsy | 9/28/09

This is the first song by pearl jam although not released as a single. To me it is the best song of theirs by far, so much emotion in Eddies voice and music is brilliant, every time i hear him sing it it make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. She must have been one hell of a women to envoke such emotion.

the best one ever ........ | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/26/09

Amazing Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/3/09

This song just might be Pear Jam's best. I absolutely love Eddie Vedder's vocals all throught the song, not to mention some powerful guitar work. So much emotion to this song, it's just one of those songs that is just able to combine the emotion into the not just the lyrics and vocals, but also the instruments. I just heard this song on the raido and every time i hear it, i just go off to a place where i'm surrounded by the sounds that these guy's bring, and reminds me of certian people and places i've seen and known so far in my life. I just wish i could've been around at the time when this kind of great music was making it big.

*sigh* | Reviewer: candichan | 8/22/09

Beautiful. The kind of song that chills you to your core, no matter how many times you listen to it. It hit me right from the first time I'd ever heard it, and I love reading these reviews because they only stand to prove that this is a brilliant song.
How can you tell?
People who are now 30 years old listened to it and connected to it when they were 16/17/18.
I'm 18 now and it still reaches out to me. Passes along the generations and still holds an impact.
It's amazing.
I love Pearl Jam, so excited that they're hitting up Melbourne soon! :)

Black | Reviewer: Lisa | 4/27/09

I first heard "Black" briefly in my car and walked into my home muttering the words and my then nine and ten year olds began jumping on me to go the concert. This was in New Orleans where they had scheduled (2) shows. Unfortunately, both shows were sold out. My friends told me the band did not do "Black." Then a miracle occurred - they added a third show, we got great tickets and praise all that is holy and precious, Eddie Vedder sung "Black." My (2) older girls (I have four daughters) were supremely jealous, so that gave me an excuse to see then every time they have come to town. "Black" has almost become my personal anthem (I would say definitely - but Pearl Jam does so many songs that touch my heart and soul.) I hope they have the longevity of the Rolling Stones, the impact of a vanguard forefront (really - already achieved,) the prolific production of Lennon/McCarthy and most important PLAESE COME BACK TO NEW ORLEANS !!!!! I live (4) miles from where the levees broke and we are looking for distractions of such a magnitude concert of two or three or four from one of New Orleans all time favorite, yes it is: PEARL JAM
One of your legions of "Number One Fans", I remain truly committed: Lisa E. Martin

(N.B. If I could get an autographed picture- -or even just a picture, especially of Eddie Vedder you could certainly give me, a housebound invalid a major thrill. (I do respect and admire the whole band, including, but not limited to the songs that Stone and Eddie write together. May be it's the ancient pull of the "lead "singer. I love you all
