You may have thought it through thoroughly. Unfortunately you didn't READ it thoroughly! You're projecting mate. Read it again. just because you want it to be so doesn't make it so. Ever heard of mondegreens?
Gay dude. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/19/11
Hello boys! My name is John Dick (alias, lol), I have most definetely found evidence of gayness in Paul's lyrics!!!
In the classic, "50 ways to leave your lover", dear Pauli sings in the chorus:
"Just slip in the back Jack". - we all know what that mean *
"You don't need to be coy, Roy" - we have all had a modest lover, haven't we? ;-)
"Hop on the bus, Gus, you don't need to discuss much" - many synonymous for the little Simon, right?
Please comment on this one, I have thought it through thoroughly.
love this site by the way! :-)

I feel a bit like the girl in this song though I never really told the guy he should leave is girlfriend. Feel a bit bad about myself now eventhough it's probably the best thing for the both of them, the girl is really upset now according to him.
A great song or story always has a great hook - melody or lyric. I always thought that this song had both - a brilliant offering from one of the truly great musical poets of the 20th century. Check out "The Dangling Conversation" as well.
she let me need to struggle for free instead | Reviewer: jason | 2/18/10
my friend recommended this song to me.
it's really good and i was touched by it.
i liked a girl that was just like the one in this song.
but how painful i felt when i saw the lyrics goes 'I'd like to help you in your struggle to be free'
she made me love her and then she froze me off...
she instead made me have to struggle to be free from my love of her.
50 ways to leave her.
yes,there will be 50 ways.
but there will be no way to forget the pain.
From the Ex to the Ex | Reviewer: margie
My ex and I are still friends. When he told me how horrible his current relationship was going, I sent him a text with the lyrics, a few at a time. This is one of those songs that will never stop addressing one of the oldest ailments of the heart...
I have allways loved THIS SONG | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/20/09
For years on end I've liked this song and thought I would eventually hop on the bus and drop off the key someday, but after 20 years and two kids, he took the bus and the girl in the song isn't me but someone else!
leave your "lover" | Reviewer: KJo | 3/16/09
This song makes me smile! Im seeing a guy who is unfortunately STUCK in a marraige he doesnt want to be in....and we tell each other that this is "his song".
And as for the other woman....i feel sorry for her, but he and i will be very happy in no time!
how true indeed... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/8/09
i've just had this song sent to me by a girl who's... well, just like the one in the song;-)
of course i've known the song for years, but it's amazing how well mr. simon can put a difficult (or rather simple?) situation into a nice little song.
seems like it's up to me now...
take off the ring, king...
Brilliant song! | Reviewer: Bex | 8/20/08
Such an amazing song! Big Paul Simon fan anyway but I just love how different this is compared to his other stuff, love the contrast between the sift ballad and the really upbeat track. Now I'll have this song in my head all day!
you must hear this cover | Reviewer: allen | 1/2/08
for anyone who has lost love....
this song is great, a sort of upbeat song the way paul does it. but please go find the version from Brad Mehldau. Its a slow piano-only jazz interpretation. it is absolutely beautiful and heart slaying when done slowly. hope you enjoy and dont cry to much.

I sang this song in my head when I was working/prostituting myself with him ,that's all I did was sing it, many years later I packed up my stuff and split. Regret I didn't do it 10 yrs. earlier. What a fool.
that's true | Reviewer: Joss | 8/5/07
I know this song because a guy I'd known a couple of months ago made a cover of this song and published it on youtube, then I listened to the original version and I liked it even better
