ohh my god. You people who have to analyze the song are so dumb. Just listen to it, memorize it, and go to a concert. They're amazing, and you don't need to analyze everyones songs. No one care what it means to you, All that matters is what Ryan thinks of it. He wrote it, and it's not up for discussion! Get over it, and your self and your "amazing song analyzing skills", NO ONE CARES..

to the person below me, lyrics are what makes a song, a song. just his voice and the music arent the only things that matter. if there were no words it wouldnt be a song. it would just be music. the lyrics are what people relate to. thats why people like certain bands, because they have good lyrics that mean something to them.

In my opinion, its about being confident all of a sudden, kind of coming into your own and taking the spotlight away from someone who's used to it. You've these kickass pinstripe pants, you're one of the cool kids now, new, hip, hot, the thing of the moment, and you just want to "wreck the evening," unsettle everyone and put them out of their element. Its a "this is my moment to shine, look at what all my enemies are doing." Yeah, they're smoking in the bathroom.

This is just my own opinion, but I think it's about stepping up and talking to a big shot, like, say, a producer, or a movie director, and how about someone being really nervous while the main singer is planning something sneaky. The main chorus including 'I'm the new cancer' means that he's dangerous and killer, and everyone knows him. He means to intimidate, hence why he's gotten so confident, as it says.
But that's just my opinion.

I'm not entirely sure what the song is about, as I'm not good at deciphing lyrics, but I think it's mainly about how people these days judge entirely on appearance.
Most of it talks about fashion, and almost like someone's conscience. Especiall with the bit about being 'cheap'. Although the song isn't just about the fashion area of appearances.

"Oh and the smokes in that cigarette box
On the table, they just so happen to be laced with nitroglycerin." - - This bit briefly talks about how people smoke to be 'cool'. Again relating to people's appearances, I also think the mention of nitroglycerin might be linked to how easy it is to die from Smoking, which also links into the chorus about Cancer. Maybe an underlying message of how far people will go to be seen as 'cool'.

The whole chorus with cancer is pretty well tied in. Smoking causes lung cancer, right? And you're so 'cool' if you smoke, right? "I'm the new cancer, never looked better, and you can't stand it." It all ties in really.

Then right at the begining we get, "When you're in black slacks with accentuating, off-white, pinstripes, whoa-oh
Everything goes according to plan." -- It talks about a very 'flash' outfit, and because of the world we live in, this means their life is great and goes right, where as if you're wearing last year's fashion, you're an outcast and so everything goes wrong.

I truly love the genius of this song.

I went to a Green Day Concert in 2004 (I think it was then) and I thought I'd never find a greater band. I was wrong and I did. I love Panic! At the Disco sooooooo much! Anyone know when they go for a concert around North Carolina? Please tell. I SO WANT TO SEE THEM!
