well i listened to this song over and over just as i do with many of thiers, to try to find the meanings behind it. i havent found this one yet, but its catchy.
thanks^^ | Reviewer: Ash =) | 12/15/07
uuh..'thursdays child'? is it..yes wow thanks for that! must've taken FOREVER! but ti really helped me get the song..see i thought it was simply complaining about those cheap motels and how bad they are..LOL but i do love the song! panic rocks!
but with the 'purse of a different kind' thing i origionally had thought it might be something in the ourse..like a gun or osmething lol..heh
btw mrsurir: not to be cynical but i dont really believe you'vve met brendan urie, your just trying to gte attention but might i also add: idolizing omeone just because they're hot and can sing isnt a good idea, you've heard the songs, he probably a relly horrible person in real life, just my opinion^^
another view. | Reviewer: Jenny | 12/16/07
Ahh I'm to tired to read through all 8 pages of reviews so don't be bitter if I'm saying something that has already been said.
Most panic at the disco songs are lines from the movie closer. I am 99 percent sure this one. Lying is the most fun a girl can have with out taking her clothes off. And I write sins not tradigies are from that movie.
And I do believe the purse is a black book that many street walkers use to keep tracks of there clients
Stupid..... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/11/07
Yes folks I enjoy Panic! at the Disco.... you people saying you are the only fans.... thats stupidity in the works... if they only created one cd... and everyone liked that cd.... then what the hell are you talking about.... and folks ONE damn CD.... they don't "Usually" do anything... the ideas for what the song are about are neat.... just some of the people commenting really piss me off..... especially saying they are the only true fan of P!ATD there are many fans... and thats probably the only way you heard about them was through fans... or else they would probably no longer be a band... join the fans... don't piss them off that is one dumb thing to do... anger the fans of a band by saying they are not fans.... stupidity in the highest form.... BTW I love this song... Kudos for the deciphering of the song....
PS> WE DON'T CARE HOW MANY TIMES YOU MET BRENDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD DAY
this song is soo frickin awesome | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/4/07

it could be.... | Reviewer: thursday's child | 12/2/07
I'll try it line by line:
It's these substandard motels on the (lalalalala) corner of 4th and Fremont Street.
Appealing only because they are just that un-appealing - they're appealing for people who conduct themselves like the hooker and the lawyer because they are unappealing... no one would ever suspect them to be there, and it's not the type of place other people go.
Any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering - it could be a whorehouse, which catholics are supposed to disapprove of, which is where the irony of the "virgin catholic" comes in.
The rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde,
And the habit of decomposing right before your very (lalalala) eyes - asbestos is a substance that is banned, a lot like prostitution.
Along with the people inside - as the rotten, unappealing building decomposes so do the people (tenants) who visit... decomposing as in their morals (virgin becomes "virgin") and also secrets being revealed, as referred to later in the song.
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy - caricatures are unrealistic sketches, and i believe it's used to show things aren't exactly as they seem... also they are mockeries, it seems like what the girl is doing is a mockery of catholicism.
Tonight tenants range from: a lawyer and a virgin - the lawyer and the virgin are staying at this motel tonight (obvious i know)
Accessorizing with a rosary tucked inside her lingerie - this implies she might not be catholic, but is seemingly so (once again referring to a caricature) to attract the lawyer who is possibly attracted to virgins
She's getting a job at the firm come Monday - once she sleeps with him, the job is hers
The Mrs. will stay with the cheating attorney
moonlighting aside, she really needs his money - she knows what he gets up to but cant support herself without him
And not to mention, the constable, and his proposition, for that "virgin" - now in inverted commas after what she has done
Yes, the one the lawyer met with on "strictly business" as he said to the Mrs - he tells her he's meeting her for an interview but she isn't as naive as he assumes
Well, only hours before, after he (the lawyer) had left, she was fixing her face in a compact - trying to hide what just happened.
There was a terrible crash (There was a terrible crash) Between her and the badge - the policemen came in, probably to arrest her.
She spilled her purse and her bag - she was so suprised she dropped everything
and held a "purse" of a different kind. - this is arguable, but i believe it's the purse of the lips. could be either her keeping her secrets, or her deciding to seduce him to be free of charge
(There are no) Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses - this is metaphorically her past life
its sleeping with roaches (the lawyer and the constable) and taking best guesses - could mean she is unsure of what to do, maybe due to her religion, and is just doing the best she can, and makes what she thinks is the best decisions but in her case are just guesses... she seems rather naive and very impressionable
shade of the sheets (probably a horrible shade judging by the motel, and now a sentimental shade)and before all the stains - easy to say what that means
And a few more of your least favorite things - other things she believes she has to do, as much as she hates them, because she needs this job.
agree? disagree? any ideas?
this is just what i figured out, there is still a lot that is confusing
good song, this one!
Abestos and Formaldehyde | Reviewer: Gema | 12/1/07
In accordance to Wikipedia, Abestos is a type of fiber used to make thin rope (I'm thinking bondage and dominant sex?) and formalehyde is a chemical that get people really light headed. Prostitues often use it to knock thier clients out and steal thier money.
So, the "motel" is most probably a whorehouse and a seedy one at that. There it's settled. It's not actually a motel.
finaly | Reviewer: Lia | 11/17/07
Ok,I've read almost everything you have wrote and I think it's time for me to say what I think of it.1st,I agree with JAG,because I know a thing or two about poetry too.2nd I think that the "motel" is a whorehouse, and a cheep one, because s.o tried to make it better with asbestos and formaldehyde. The story-well,a prostitute's trying to get applied by a client of hers, who is lying to his wife. The wife is obviously aware of her husband's "bussines",but she is greedy and she"needs his money".I agree that the cop f-cks the girl to hide her secret but I don't think she's a Catholic and I totaly don't get the "Rosary" part..well,that's from me,excuse my English and I'll be looking up ti seeing replies ^^
