this song got me through science and art class.
How About Write The Lyrics Word For Word? | Reviewer: MattLee | 1/21/09
Instead of trying to chance them into proper english? I don't think the official lyrics said okay, i believe they said ok.
I hate when losers who worry about grammar destroy song lyics. If it wasn't written in proper english to begin with, don't change it. Losers ruin music.
Hmmmm.......a bit cynical?? | Reviewer: adamhaha | 12/4/08
Who cares about the same music? But yes they do sound similar, not the same....which is what I said before. Oh and Dana, if you listen, they do sound similar, but not exact....which is what people were implying I assume, so get off your high horse about being in a band, big fucking whoop. I know a few people that do not play any sort of musical instrument but would dominate you in music trivia. Everyone enjoy what they enjoy......music wise and any other way. Peace!!
this is just retarded.... | Reviewer: adfakdjfal | 9/30/08
nirvanas my favorite band and offsprings definately up there and i swear the first time i heard offspring i thought it was nirvana. just cause this song is total kurt cobain status with the whole writing about self esteeem. and only this song from offspring actually sounds like nirvana. offsprings sounds more punk to me. i dont think this was influenced at all they both sing about the same kinda stuff everyone does. nirvana is a tiight band but i dont think anyone jocked what nirvana was doing.because nirvana wasnt even the first gruge band.i think it just something they enjoyed doing too just nirvana was better at it. and its kinda like that stp song half the man... everyone in grunge sounded kinda the same. just like now with this whole hardocre screamo emo shit...it all sounds the same. so you all are gayer then gay gay gay,
stop hatin on offsping.
err | Reviewer: jordan | 9/18/08
It definetly sounds like nirvana's teen spirit even though they are two completely different songs, i love both personally but the first time i heard self esteem it instatly reminded me of nirvana and that was without reading other peoples comments on the matter first

Hai, you guys! Why dont you shut the fuck up about the nirvana and offspring thing. Who cares if it sounds the same? Its not YOUR problem, its theres, and THEIR buisness, so just leave it alone...
(And, Adrian, your soo right. Fuckin Courtney Love killed Kurt. =[)

dumb ass | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/11/07
just to end the whole smells like teen spirit vr self esteem thing, the fact is simple, the key and beet are different, not to mention that the cord progression is really common. look at don't forget me by red hot chili peppers or beer by real big fish. the fact is it's ok to use similar chord progressions, the important thing is the interpretation of them and the lyrics that go with them. if you want to see some coping of chords just look at rockabilly, practically every song uses the 1 5 3 pattern.
peace and love
Right? Yeah! | Reviewer: Casandi de ser Mandy | 12/3/07
I really like this song, especially the line that says 'the more you suffer, the more it shows you really care'. I feel like I can relate to it alot to, becuase the more I hang on to my X the more I care, right? No? Honestly, all I know is that this song is nothing short of AMAZING.
Well, anyway, mabey this song shares some similarities to Nirvanas "Smells Like Teen Spirit" because they are from the same genre? Just a thought.
difference between a rip-off and an influenced song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/21/07
wat is everyones problem? offspring will be offspring and nirvana will be nirvana. two great, but differnt bands. nonetheless, music is stolen all the time, and its no biggy. a rip-off is not based on music.
Rip-off: when you take lyrics (more than one line) and call them your own.
Taking music is not wrong. it shows influence and innovation if you can write different lyrics to the same riff or whatever.
however, majority of the time, a riff that is taken is twisted or improved so that they can call it their own. the riff from Self Esteem sounds similair to nirvanas smells like teen spirt, but its not the same.
the rifff from SLTS is in the key of F while self esteem is in A.
also the way the riff is strummed is completely different
