This isn't a story - it's too opposing possibilities of relationship (love & friendship, as opposed to enemies & difficulty of finding love). There is no metamorphosis (i.e. story) directly linking these thoughts and it is not even clear whether the "you" refers to a single person or multiple, different people!
The song is essentially different fantasies and, besides the potential for different forms of relationship, there is no indication as to the nature of the actual relationship between the singer and the person or people he is talking about. The song is much more about the desire that the singer has to "get along" with that person/those people, and this idea permeates the song's chorus and outro; it is therefore featured as a central idea.
The singer seems to be challenging God's will, as Abel was (according to the Bible) the first murdered human but the singer dreams that his own destiny will be far greater, in the song's coda (specifically, in the lyrics "No-one could break us/No-one could take us/If they tried"). The song leaves open the question as to what does happen to the singer, akin to the unestablished nature of the relationship between the singer and the listener (the "you"). The song is thus very dream-like and optimistic.

it is a good song and i like the simplicity of the lyrics, they are basic but if u listen, they tell a story. I found that if your in a really hyper happy mood, perhaps this isn't the best song to listen to because I found it made me kinda depressed and in a *sighs* mood after that. But all in all it's a good tune!
Keep it up boys!!!
