Cigarettes and alcohol is a very significant song in Oasis' history. It represents Oasis as a new up and coming band, that were soon to take the music world by storm. Yes, the guitar riffs and chords were clearly stolen from T- Rex's hit "Bang a gong". But the lyrics send a simple but nonetheless clear message, that Oasis were the real deal, they had a message to deliver, and they were delivering it with style and confidence. It also shows Oasis climbing up the charts, from obscurity, their rise was nothing short of phenomenal, its what the public back in the mid 90's wanted to hear.
