To me, I think the singer is talking about how she fell in love with someone, and planned to meet up with them, but didn't show because she feels she isn't worthy for love, althou she regrets not showing up. I think the music is stronger than the lyrics personally. It was a monster hit though, so you can't argue with that. As a songwriter myself, I sense abit of wrtiter's block in a couple of verses (the last verse and the first)(more the last) You know, like when you settle with some naff words coz you have a deadline or you just want to finish the damn song otherwise it won't ever get finished.
