While leadbelly was the first band to do the song, it is a very old folk song. Lead Belly, Bill Monroe, Bob Dylan, Jackson C. Frank, Clifford Jordan, The Pleazers, Grateful Dead, Long John Baldry, Annette Zilinskas, The Triffids, Mark Lanegan, Nirvana, Dolly Parton, & Ralph Stanley have all done versions. And btw the original title was "Black girl" not "My girl"

This is definatly one of the best Nirvana songs ever and nobody could ever sing as good as Nirvana. NEVER!!!

nirvana is basically expressing it's self through music and thts wat i like in dis band it's really rox!

i would say that this is definitely the most emotional songs on mtv unplugged album, but definitely not the most spirited song kurts ever sang, give a listen to "you know youre right" and "all apologies" and "something in the way" and youll see what i mean. but i do love the part on this song in particular where kurt SHIVVVERRRS after singing shiver. kurt, you were and always will be amazing.

I am 17 years old I have been listening to Nirvana for a very long time. I kinda grew up with it. I have all of their cds. I love this song and all of thier songs! I love you KURT COBAIN! You will forever live on! You will never die out becuase you music will forever remind people of how great you were! RIP!

I've only heard the nirvana version of this song on the mtv unpluged cd but i personally believe that it is quite frankly one of their best musical and vocal performace i ahve ever heard from them (even though the man who sold the world witch happens to be another cover is amazing also) but yah even kurt said himself that it was one of his best perfomances(refering to the mtv unplugged performance) and he couldnt top that, and i believe it is too, very emotional very good:) gets 20 thumbs up!!

I downloaded the Leadbelly version a long time after I first heard the Nirvana version - I think that this is the best thing Nirvana ever did its the track I always play - the Leadbelly version is fantastic too - such raw emotion - sad but so beautiful

first of all..this song rocks!! doesn't matter if it's by nirvana or leadbelly..this song is amazing. the lyrics..!!..OMG! the lyrics!! the whole idea of the man dying and then singing "where did you sleep last night?" i think almost everyone would agree with me when i say "GENIUS!!"

Sorry to break it to you, but this a cover of a very old song. Leadbelly is the earliest recorded version I know of, but Hole & Mark Lanegan have done it as well. Nirvana's version is great, but take a listen to Leadbelly's as well. The recording may be grainy, but the same sorrow present in Nirvana's version is in Leadbelly's.

There is no such other song. So emotionally loaded. This is the best Nirvana's song.

you all will probably think im stupid, im 13 years old and i think nirvana is the best band in the world.I recently found out Kurt Cobain died on my 3rd b-day which was kinda weird. anyway i love this song as i do all their other ones too.wery sad.
