The Reviews about Smells Like Teen Spirit (page 1/ 13)
------ performed by Nirvana

I'm a little shocked... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/23/09

Hey he sold more records than any of you shitfucks. A man who has no talent, and still makes a fortune out of his job is pretty clever in my books.

The Nirvana fans love the music for what they see in it. It was everything that it needed to be, rough, acidic, and on the edge of what went down as rock, but still catchy and effective enough to attract millions of fans.

At the same time, all of of the fans who obsess over this figure are sad. He wrote lyrics, and some of them were deep and meaningful, and others meant very little at all (see above). That doesn't make him Christ two.

Likewise, those of you who attack Nivana and their fans at every opportunity are rather sad too. At least Cobain had SOME talent. You want someone to attack for having no talent and millions of fans? Look at Kanye West, Flo Rider and all those dickheads.

He was not the greatest singer, nor the greatest guitarist, not the greatest songwriter, but he did have a unique skill in writing songs that garnered the type of fanatical support that is evident here.

I would like to see any of you do what Cobain did.

You're all a bunch of retards | Reviewer: ROFL. | 10/15/09

One, most of you are the reason Cobain grew to hate people, lost compassion for his fans, and blew his head off.
Idiots.

You fuckers are fighting over lyrics some dead guy wrote and debate over whether this is a musical genius or drug addict rotting in hell.

First off, Cobain wrote the song, and named it 'Smells like Teen Spirit' because one of his friends wrote 'Kurt smells like Teen spirit' on a wall, he drew the name from there.

He was pissed when he found out that it's named after a deodorant company, mind you.
So there's no real meaning behind this song, aside from it's a breakthrough hit for one of the pioneer bands that brought grunge to the mainstream.

So before ANY OF YOU go shitting out more 'COBAIN SUCKS I HOPE HE'S ROTTING IN HELL!! DRUGGIE' or 'OMG KURT COBAIN IS A LYRICAL GENIUS', get your facts right.

Yes, the man could write lyrics that do deeply touch a few people.
And he did drugs.

I bet most of you are sitting on your fat asses chewing some pills or smoking a joint right now.

Does that mean you should rot in hell with Kurt too?

It's really wierd that almost every Nirvana song has a meaning and is really good but one of the few that doesn't mean anything is the one that get the most famous. If anyone can tell me why pls do.

Yeah..ha | Reviewer: yeah | 9/24/09

Bite Me--uhh, what do you do? You have nothing better to do than sit here & type a book about how much you hate Nirvana? LOSER! Your NOT famous...Kurt Cobain is, so stop being such a jealous hater. You are DEFINATELY just jealous, it's obvious because you can't seem to stop typing!

Curiouser and curioser.... | Reviewer: Adrian | 9/22/09

Maybe living down under gives me an upside-down perspective, but I personally find the discussion about poor ol' Kurt's musical legacy more interesting than the actual song lyrics themselves! As per most of the music I like, I only bother to take the time to research lyrics if I like the song enough to have firstly learnt to play it. Doesn't mean I don't like other songs, but lyrics are less important to me than the musical composition and performance - maybe this is a consequence of growing up in the 80's where there were plenty of good songs with ridiculous lyrics! But 15 years on and the fact that debate on his talent is still going strong says something, though I'm not exactly sure what. I often wonder how Kurt would be remembered if he just kept on going (like Elvis? ) In many ways the fact that he died early has meant that his relatively small portfolio of work has been put under a massive magnifying glass - which is sure to bring out both the best and the worst. Anyway my 2 cents is that a limmerick is still poetry.

this guy's hate made me feel sorry for him | Reviewer: gay_bar | 9/20/09

oh and another thing anonymous nirvana hater, you were going on about people think thier music is genious because they were assigning thier own meanings to it, thats called using metaphors :) or have you never heard of metaphors ? allot of bands do that now because aswell as having their own meanaing to the song they can let their fans interperit the song for themselves, so if that is the case than he was a lyrical genious beacause allot of people like intereriting things for themselves and allot of succsessfull bands do it nowdays :)

My opinion. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/15/09

Nirvana might be not musically complex but still original. Originality is very essential for an Artist. You can consider this as Abstract Art.
For me Cobain´s songs is relaxing or energetic, the lyrics a puzzle to solve with some that contain a meaning. Music is not always about complexity otherwise every guitarist would be jacking of his/her guitar with the intention to BE Technical but are not, and that will become unoriginal. I do listen to many artist from different genres, from classic till metal. My favorite artist is Chuck Schuldiner, a superb guitarist, original, songs with meaningful lyrics about the human life(except for the first 3 albums) and also a pioneer in the area of Death Metal(but different than you can imagine or like the Death Metal you hear nowadays and unfortunately Chuck died from Pneumonia at the end of the year 2001. Chuck and Kurt did both in what they did best. It's a pity that they both had to die, but that is how life goes.

another thing bite me... | Reviewer: the poster from 8/8/09 | 9/3/09

when bite me said that his songs were but the ramblings of an addict, well guess what? He only took the drugs to alleviate the pain he had with his stomach ulcers. Him singing without cringing every tim is amazing, considering that stomach ulcers cause daily, permanent pain. So, to say he wasn't worth it is just like saying any effort to try to express yourself is in vain and pointless. And you couldn't be more wrong. So, next time you want to bitch about a song you don't like or an artist you think "sucks" or "blows", you should be considerate and factual, and, above all, know what the hell you are talking about. The defense rests, and i hope Kurt does so as well in peace. You will be remembered forever in rock history.

Who cares about lyrics? | Reviewer: Daniel | 8/29/09

It doesn't matter if they lyrics are deep or not. Fact is, the song is damn good. It's about the music. Nirvana is all about the music, the "feel" of everything. If you don't like it, that's your personal preference. Having different musical tastes doesn't make you better or worse than anyone else. It's all what you like. It just so happens a lot of people like Nirvana's music. ;)

MEGADEATH??? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/27/09

Who is this loser ramblin on and on about how wack Kurt was. Get off his dick, yes he was a musical genius you ignorant fuck, ohhhh wait wait wait wait, if he's not i'm sure Dream Theater, Ayreon, Frameshift, Megadeth are, loll get the fuck outta here, you listen to straight trash, i used to listen to those bands as well, until the music just got old. Nirvanas music is timeless you imbusul. Granted Kurt was not the greatest guitarist nor singer nor lyricist, but he knew how to put a track together like no other. Emmitt Smith, hall of fame running back for the Dallas Cowboys was never the fastest guy nor the biggest guy on the field, actually far from it, however he managed to break the record for most rushing yards EVER in the nfl. Kurt knows how to make a fucking track man, get over it, hes fuckin dope, and uhhhh yeaaaa megadeath is notttt. So go tell your duck tales to disney pal, cuz were sick of hearing fiction about Kurt.
