I don't think it means 'rape me' in a sexual sense..
more like rape me of who i am, rape me of my individuality.
like how nirvana got stuck in this whole mainstream thing,
and how he was being raped of who he was.
whatever the true meaning of the song, we can never really know,
because its whatever it meant to him, and how he felt while writing it.
regardless of the whole mainstream thing, nirvana totally stayed true,
and they are still an amazing kick ass band.
this is a great song.

He might have been raped in his young years. I have never read his biography, but I wonder what were his stomach aches connected with. I asume that it was result of some emotional problem, like he was victim of sexual abuse. No pills can take away that pain.

YOU GUYS ARE FUKIN STUPID | Reviewer: ROYAL | 12/29/09

you dumb asses this song is about someone betraying him MTV. so i am suprised that a 13 year old had to correct you!!! also courtney killed kurt they found practice hand writing of the note and kurt was very high that night so he woud not be able to put the shotgun is his mouth.

The Truth | Reviewer: Spider | 12/22/09

Wow. You're all pretty fucking retarded aren't you? The song has a clear meaning: Kurt Cobain felt like a filthy whore. A tampon used by MTV since he became part of a mainstream that gave more of a shit about advertising than it did about quality. Although the stomach pain thing sounds just about right. Nirvana sucks anyway.

Man, if this song written by Kurt Cobain was really about this fact thats so understanding to myself, the fact is I suffer from horrible stomache pains since I was younger... but as for me I do not miss around with PILLS after seeing what happens to many people and celebritites its just heartbreaking. I love Nirvana!!!!

Fact is, the song is autobiographical.
Kurt Cobain wrote it with the intention of describing how his constant stomache pains (which he had since his youth) ruled his life. He used the words Rape Me because that's what the pain was to him: an insult on his person. That the called the pain My Friend is because it was sometimes the only thing that acompanied him when he felt abandoned and lonely.

Man, I can relate....

Come on. | Reviewer: U.S. Nero | 12/9/09

Seriously, just take the song for what's actually there. Practically the only words are "Rape me" and "Am I the only one?"

Imagine a rape victim whose only concern is that his/her perpetrator might be unfaithful, i.e. also rape somebody else.

Imagine being raped and then thinking, "But I'm the only one, right?"

That's what this song "means."

Inside Source | Reviewer: Beesley | 9/26/09

it can be read as Kurts version of poetic justice, a guy rapes a girl, goes to prison and gets raped there. or it can be read as the way kurt feels he is being treated by the media, the public, record labels ect. This thery is given substance by the lines:
My favorite inside source
I'll kiss your open sores
I appreciate your concern
You're gonna stink and burn

These lines seem to be refering to the Vanity Fair article which claimed they had a inside source saying that Courtny did heroin while pregnent. This inside source made kurt furious leading him to hand out various death threats and was a big reason for his hatred toward the media. It is becuase of these lines that i believe it is about the way he is feeling about the treatment he is recieving from the media.

Your correct on one fact that songs like paintings feel for someone differently then others but the song had meaning to it when the artist wrote it like an artist painting a picture they have motivation for the song or painting weither its through what they see or what they been through or even how they feel on certain subjects people have different points of veiws on that subject obviously from what you disclosed in your comment but i my self am a song writter for my band and i need motivation to write it as does my girl friend who is also in music and my cousin every song has a reason for it being made if it was truly by the artist.

My opinion | Reviewer: Lindsay | 8/10/09

His fellow band mates have said that Kurt Cobain has often said the music comes first then the words. So his words could have no meaning at all or hit could have a thousand reasons. Songs aren't meant to be fought over. It doesn't matter if your interpretation is different from Kurt's. Its all in the eye of the beholder just enjoy the music.

never understood | Reviewer: nusensecc2@yahoo.com | 7/9/09

i love this song to death listen to it everyday searching for the meaning of it and never understood it till a girl i fell in love with left me because her parents didnt like me, her rejecting me felt like someone was rapeing me, and then it felt like she hated me so she was doing and doing it again, i love this song

meaning | Reviewer: Bart | 6/30/09

I believe this song is representing Kurts anti-rape view. he mocks the rapist "Rape me, my friend", "Do it and do it again". "Your going to stin and burn", your going to die along and rot while your soul burns in hell. And "am i the only one" is am i the only one who feels this strongly. thats my opinion of the song, Cobain did say in an interview that this song represented his anti rape view

You can think what you like about the qualities of the song, and whether or not he should have used the words Rape Me as he did.

Biographers link this information to his drugs abuse later in life: As a child, he had learned that pain can be treated with pills. When regular medicine were no longer sufficient, well....

Don't be idiots. This song isn't ABOUT anything. No songs are. They are about whatever they make you feel. Like paintings - the artist might have intended it to be about one thing, but you can feel something completely different. Songs aren't about the people who write them. They are about the people who listen and feel them. My god, it's not that complicated.

oh my god | Reviewer: lissa | 6/14/09

every song has some sort of meaning unless it's completely nonsensical. It may not have dep meaning but it means something.
And, songs may eb about something specific, btu that doesn't mean it has to mean the same to everyone. Songs are interpretted differently by everyone who listens to them

but anyway, this is a great song. Not the best, but still pretty good

Point Blank | Reviewer: Eddie | 6/8/09

It's for the media. That is it okay? No need for discussions on whether he was high or not, irrelevant. It's very simply stated in the lyrics... Inside source, I appreciate your concern, rape me (get the shit you need). And Nirvana Rocks!!!
