Luv to Kurt | Reviewer: LiseEpps | 5/25/08

I have watched many interviews with Kurt saying that people can analyse and interpret his lyrics how they like and take what they will from them. I think that is the beauty of his lyrics that they allow us to take individual meaning from them. Its awesome to read everyone's comments! The death of Kurt still saddeneds me imensley, cheers to all fellow Kurt fans X

I think it was robert frost who said that no matter who interprets poetry, the reader (or listener in this case) or the author itself, it will always be right, and equally valid

so you are all right and all wrong

as am I

Im from ecuador by the way

One of my favorites | Reviewer: Fan | 3/17/08

This is by far of my favorite songs however I listen to rape me (solo acoustic demo) and I love the way it all flows smoothly together, but when ever I listen to it in public everyone sees the title and immediately labels me as a pervert for listening to one of the most golden songs of music history.

STOP FUCKING ARGUING! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/23/08

I personally think it's just a song that Kurt wrote, as in, NONSENSE. Kurt wrote nonsense. The meanings of his songs came out to him later. I write the same way. Everyone interprets it differently, so shut up and enjoy.

You are all dumb | Reviewer: corn rows willy | 2/7/08

Obviously none of you have ever abused heroin. I am not saying i am proud of doing so but I have. And after a night of shooting and snorting I have awoken with some of the most brilliant songs of my career not remembering a damn thing. It is very possible that this song has no literal meaning.

In 1993 they were interviewing Kurt Cobain along with the rest of Nirvana. Kurt had said that Rape Me is an anti-rape song he got from the girl that got raped after that punk rock show(inspiration for Polly). But, I think everyone is entitled to their own view on every single song there is. I'm a HUGE music freak so I encourage everyone to do that.

R.I.P.
Kurt Cobain

Ughugh | Reviewer: Ugh | 1/23/08

To me this song is about getting abused by the music industry. But i'm fine with all the other meanings this song could have. Fightning about this or know-it-alls... it kills me.

rape | Reviewer: Ya_ne_bog | 1/23/08

i'm from russia,, maybe i have another mind.. but.. i think that Kurt was speaking about his live.. you know, there is a proverb. If live rapes you, you are still living.

Sad | Reviewer: Jill | 1/11/08

I think we'd all like to believe that we love, know more about and understand Kur(d)t more than anyone! But, I wonder if this song maybe had a fluid meaning for Kurt. He had a lot of experiences that I bet felt a little like being raped. I know that personally this song has brought certain thoughts to my mind on one day and different ones another. Unless we are inside his head, we will never know for certain what any of his music is about. He seems like the type that might divulge little and leave a lot to the imagination.
I'm just sad that he's gone

Re: Rape Me's meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/6/08

Uhm, no the song rape me is actually about how the media affected Kurdt and his family.
"Rape Me" is directed at insensitive assholes who had no appreciation for what was happening in Kurdts life behind all the music and CD sales.
The lines : "i'm not the only one" Mean that Frances and Coutney were also affected by the press and media. But yes, I agree that Polly is a song about a girl who was kidnapped and raped on her way home from a punk rock show.

good song! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/4/08

Oh man, I was reading some of the other posts, and some "know-it-all" person was talking about how Kurt wrote it about MTV stealing his songs in 1999.

1999...?

Kurts been gone since '94.
Shows how much some people know.

And I think the lyrics are up for personal interpretation. Kurt Cobain knew what he wrote them about, but anyone can think of those lyrics in their own way. Same for all songs!

meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/25/07

I love this song its just brilliant. But also theres really no point to fighting over the meaning of this song. Every song has a different meaning, Kurt wrote this song probably knowing exactly what it was about but that doesn't mean thats the only meaning it has. Yes the song could be a metaphor for what was happening to him at the time, or it could also be about the fourteen - year old girl who was raped at a Nirvana concert. If every song only had one has one meaning to you then why do you listen to music?

Wow. | Reviewer: Mirabella | 12/10/07

It's painful reading this.
Okay.
First and foremost, this song is in the view of the girl that was raped in the song Polly. In Polly, it was in the view of the rapist. IT's about how Polly seduced the rapist in order to gain his trust and get him to let her go. Kurt was shocked and wrote Polly, and Rape Me. Rape Me is Polly seducing the man to let her go.
Second.
Pretty much all of you don't know squat about Nirvana.
Try doing research and reading someday.

A little shut up might go a long way | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/3/07

Okay, the whole lot of you just went a long way to ruining this song. Let me guess, Smells Like Teen Spirit is your favourite song, right? Maybe being educated enough to be able to spell "think" might help you out... Cobain was a bitter, egocentric man. Do you really think the song would be about an actual rape over his own experiences in the music industry?
