This song is about Polly, a 14 years old girl that have been raped and tortured after a concert. Fortunately, she has escaped and the kidnapper was caught. Nirvana just imortalized the story and the suffer of this teenager with these song named Polly. And that's it!!!!!! We can find that in internet and there are lots of journalists reports about the issue...
about a rapist | Reviewer: halves | 1/17/08
This song is as Nasty says, about a rapist. but the girl (10 years old!) that was abducted with a whip and a razorblade in a concert somehow managed to escape him in a gas station. "She caught me off my guard." A funny thing is that I actually liked this song long before I even knew the meaning. I heard even Bob Dylan said this song showed Cobain's heart.

Holy Crap. | Reviewer: Some Chick. | 1/13/08
Jeez people, look at how obsessed some of you are! It's a freakin song! The only reason I'M on this site is coz i wanted to see the lyrics, coz you can't understand what he says much. But all, no wait, MOST (discluding some) of ya's are sounding really obsessed. Half the time artists write songs about things in their lives, but the other half of the time, it can be total jibberish. Get over it people!
Great song. | Reviewer: NASTY | 1/3/08
Brooke!! You epically fail. That's not the reason he wrote this song. This song was inspired by a rapist that kidnapped a girl at some show, then he killed her. The song is supposed to be through the eyes of the rapist. Kurt's even went on record saying this.
Idiots. | Reviewer: Breanna. | 1/2/08
Please read Journals before you comment on Kurt's lyrics having no meaning. It is the most amazing book I've ever read.
And just because you're too simple to understand the lyrics doesn't mean they don't have meaning. A lot of the idiots who like Heart Shaped Box because it was popular don't know it's about heroin addiction, for example.
As far as Kurt saying they have no meaning, again, read Journals. Because the people who say they can relate to Nirvana, or Kurt Cobain, are just as big of morons as those who think the lyrics are meaningless. They may not of had meaning, they may have, and songs like this that seem to could of come out of his subconscious while on heroin and he didn't remember that they did and thought he randomly threw it together. For chrissake. No one could relate to, or will ever be able to relate to, Kurt Cobain.

Not everyone has to be so emotional about kurt cobian especially when you did not know him personally i hope you can show the same amount of empathy towards your own families.
There is a connection. Isnt that all fans need?? | Reviewer: Brooke!! | 12/28/07
When someone writes a book, or a song, or even draws a picture, they cannot just come up with an idea that has absolutly no connection to the life they live, or the world around them.
Kurts lyrics would somehow relate to his life, though some lines, no body will be able to truly understand. There was a reason Kurt wrote these lyrics, and its because there was no way that he (or anyone else) would be able to come up with %100 origional lyrics that did not relate to them in any way.
Kurt may be singing about pointless things. But to true fans he isn't singing about pointless things. Because these things really did relate to his life, what he was feeling, or what he was looking at.
If you dont believe me? Write a story. I bet if you break that story down, you'll realise that that story has alot to do with your life, or what youre thinking and feeling.

Kurt lives on!
please no | Reviewer: AZ | 12/14/07
Please don't be saying that kurt doesn't have any meaning with writing songs. It may be a little confusing but he has meaning for every song, every line, and every word.
