I’m 16 years old and I grow up listening to Nirvana (and all off those old-school bands to) because of my father (I can say that I’ve got a great music culture because of him). He has all Nirvana CD’s; it’s just amazing how a band could create so many great albums. Kurt was, and still is a genius (he’s eternal – Love you Kurt!).
I remember that once in primary school, that without my father’s knowledge I brought “Nevermind” in my Discman to the class and started listening to it when the teacher begin to talk (she was a real pain in the ass). Then I think she must have heard some kind of background noise or something and she looked at me, and there I was listening to Polly. She just literally ran at me furious and she took my Discman and put me in detention. I remember that she just sad this:
“Why are you listening to this? This isn’t music! What education are your parents given you? They must be crazy to let her daughter listen to this Stuff!”
I went mad and started kicking her ankles because she was pulling my ear while she lead me to the detention room and also because she wouldn’t gave me my Discman.
The next day my father went to school (I still don’t know what he have said to that bitch) and she brought my Discman back.
Then he said something that marked me for life:
“Be proud of being different and listening to what other people thinks that suck’s. Because if one day someone tells him to jump from a bridge, they will jump and you’ll just laugh at them from top.”
And it’s the truth, I think that the youth of today has been brain washed, they don’t have any culture, they just want to be popular, cool and “In”.
Well, I apologize if my English isn’t the best, I’m Portuguese.
Peace! :)

"Polly" is based on a true story that occured in Tacoma, Washington 1987. A man ironically named Gerald Friend kidnapped a 14 year old girl on her way home from a punk-rock show. After she was raped she was hung upside-down from a pulley attatched to the ceiling of Friends mobile home. Friend totured her with a leather strap, razor, hot wax, and a blowtorch. He dragged her to his car and after stopping for gas she manages to escape.

Cobain was whored by the voices in his head. He was beaten down by self hate. Obcessive compulsive disorder that is primarily obcessional (without rituals) is just negative thought loops that you can't stop. You start to seperate yourself from yourself in order to survive the constant self-analysis. It's very painful.

This song is about a girl who was taken and raped. The girl acts like she likes the rapist so she can escape while his guard was down thats why he says "She caught me off my guard". This song was sung from the rapist point of view

this song is about an incedent that happened in the mid-80's when two teenage girls were tourchered with blow tourches raped and killed and the song "rape me" has nothing to do with love or anything with his family if you read Kurt's journal like i have and his three bio's that you can buy at bourders or any book store it tell you everything anything about kurt, his life, and his positions on rape and murder.

the lyrics is indde aboute the rape of a fourteen year old girl. But many of you seem to belive the song "Rape Me" describes the same event from different perspectives. "Rape Me" is aboute how Vanity 'Fair' attacked his family in a interview with Courtney. After the article a Los Angeles County social worker was able to use the magazine story as evidence to fill a complaint against the couple and their parenting-skills. Kurt felt this as "a rape" of his family, and wrote the song, which in the lyrics suggest he is the one who is violated.
As for the song "Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam", it's a cover of a song by The Vaselines.
My impression | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/29/08
I think, the interpretation, that kurt tries to profile the rapist, who tortures his victim, fits. although it was the first song i played on my guitar, and is still the one that is for me the one and only nirvana-song, at first i haven't had a clue what it's actually about. at first, my native language is germanb, not english, i liked it because the sister of a friend of mine is named polly, and it was funny to sing "polly wants a cracker". i thought cracker was a salty cookie. later, as my english got better, i started wondering what kurt could have tried to say. in my opinion, he tried to get into the rapists head and understand what this man could have felt. if you listen also to the way kurt sings it, it sounds like the man is experienced in this things. it sounds cold. the profile i get from this song shows a cold, shizoid, mad man, and i think, thats what jurt cobain fascinated about him and also scared him.
What the song means | Reviewer: Kevin | 12/14/08
This song is about a rape that happened after a punk show in seattle WA. The girl fought at first then acted as if she liked the guy, and that how she got away. Thats why he say caught me off guard. The song is from the rapists point of view, think of it as the rapist is singing.

Yes, this song is about rape-- But As I have read from the Book, Kurt Cobain: "Oh Well, Whatever, Nevermind." This song is about a young girl who was captured at a Nirvana show and she was later raped and tortured. The lyrics are written from the eyes of the man who abducted her. He had written this song because Kurt had a softspot for people who have been abused.
Help | Reviewer: Aname | 12/10/08
Please I'd like someone to enlight me. First, english is not my native language. I know this song for years, and I know that it's a about a rape. But whenever I read the lyrics, I find really nothing obvious about it. So I'd like to ask you, when you heard this song for the first time, did you understand it was about a rape ? Was it obvious ? Is there some slangs words describing a sexual act or something ?
