Many versions of 'Pretty Polly' have been recorded, including ones by Judy Collins and another by The Byrds on their classic 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' album. Check it out, and compare. Interesting that Cobain ended up giving voice to a song with such deep roots, and I'm sure this isn't the last incarnation of 'Pretty Polly' we'll ever hear.
