Final Word. | Reviewer: truckfukkr | 1/2/08
ok, ok... you guys here seem to be in some confusion about who is singing this song. the answer lies in the session notes taken by the producer, Steve Albini at Pachyderm Studios in 1993. So here is the final word on who is and who isn't singing on this track.
DAVE GROHL
Dave is the only one who does any vocals on this track. Yes, Kurt Cobain had a very versitile voice, but he makes no appearence during the whole track. In fact, the session notes seem to indicate that Kurt wasn't even present during the recording, arriving 2 days later and beginning work on recording "Sappy". So there it is people, peace.

This is obviously Dave Grohl singing, it sounds exactly like him, beyond a shadow of a doubt and anyone who thinks otherwise should be slapped i wanna fucking beat the guy who posted "what a genius" right now cuz HE is the most ignorant and idiotic person ive seen in my life
Singer Songwriter. | Reviewer: Metal Cat | 11/28/07
Krist Novoselic plays the Bass... all other instruments and vocals and writing are done by Dave Grohl.
If you have the Heart Shaped Box single, please read the liner.
The song is well known not only for being a good song, but for being a very rare break in Cobain's tight grip over everything band related.

I'm sure it's kurt singing. Listen to this and other songs, if you really like them, you will find some specialities in kurt's style of singing. it's not only voice, it's style of pronounciation etc.
Of course the song was written by Dave, he said that, I don't think he has any reasons to lie.
And I can hear him clearly as a backvocalist in chorus.
*sorry for my english.

I'm absolutely sure that this is Kurt singing, the first and some other words sound just like these from verse in "something in the way", you might try and compare them.
The song was written by Dave, of course. And I can hear him clearly as a backvocalist.
*sorry for my english
no way | Reviewer: matthew | 11/20/07
this song was so done by dave it sounds exzactly like him, he admitted in an interview it was him and he has the song marigold on his newer foo fighters album skin and bones.

To those who said "dave song and wrote this song..." you guys and gals are totally wrong.
Incase you didn't know, Kurt had several styles of singing. Don't believe me?
Listen to "They Hung Him On A Cross" in that song..he sounds like a country singer. Lol. funny?
I know, but its true. He's vocals, had a wide range, yet he mostly preferred the "grungy" sound. As did most of his fans.
So their you have it, and if you still insist that it's Dave Grohl. Than, your either a moron, or just a tad ignorant.
Best of wishes, Val.

...and I can't believe that after all this time, with all of the internet resources we have, people STILL think that Kurt is singing this song. What the hell? It doesn't even remotely sound like him.

Dave wrote it sang it originally did the bass tracks drum tracks and guitar tracks .this song is was on dave's first album Pocketwatch along with Friend of A Friend .Kurt overheard him playing it and asked him to jam it with Nirvana thus Marigold became a b-side on the Heart shaped box single which i think they just called it Marigold not to sure if i can find the original i'll let you know
