Kurt Cobain was a hardcore atheist so I highly doubt some of your theories about this song is really about jebus loving.
(The jebus was intentional)

I think in performing Vaselines songs, KC changed the whole feel of this and 'Molly's Lips' (which in the Nirvana version seemed to become more about dependency - emotional and narcotic - than sex). 'Sunbeam' in the Vaselines version disavows JC and Christianity; KC, I'd argue, by the way he performs it, makes it an ode to the outsider's lack of self-esteem/ feeling of not being worthy.
Nobody get's it, This is not an antichristan song, | Reviewer: Jamie | 7/29/07
First of all I think the lyrics are written wrong here for the fourth paragraph down. Instead of "Thee" I could almost swear he is saying me. which is very possible with kurt.
This song is about someone telling God that they are not good enough to be as pure as a sunbeam and be able to die on a cross for there own sins or anyone else's.
Kurt had a brilliant way of turning things around, He loved to mess with people and norms, Anarchy rules. If you notice this song at first glance may appear to be offensive to Christians but it is definitely not. Have you ever known Kurt to present a song at purely face value.
One of Kurt's many gifts was the ability to get people to think about things from a different point of view, I personally believe he was so good at doing this sometimes it was almost automatic.
And If Kurt was so angry at God, why would he sing a pro god song right after this one during nirvana's set during unplugged.
It makes no sense. Kurt was a very clean performer, language word usage. some of the songs hinted at some things, ex. I am convinced polly is about a weekend of bondage,
But overwhelmingly Kurt could entertain us like no other and at the same time make you think and have a different perspective about things and at the same time not be Obscene or even really that rude. Something no group has really ever done before or sense with the exception of maybe foo fighters. Nirvana was not only more peaceful then ANY CHRISTIAN SINGER OR BAND. They were also much more talented.
Kurt Cobain was depressed | Reviewer: Alex | 7/7/07
if you think courtney killed him youre a fucking idiot. read something other than those cynical conpiracy books, be real. Listen to his music, read about his life, be rational.
This was only covered by Nirvana.. | Reviewer: Tom | 6/19/07
This was one of many songs covered by Nirvana for the Unplugged in New York show/album.
Most of the songs were by Meat Puppets and The Vaselines - both awesome bands too. This particular song was by the Vaselines, so any meanings for Kurt are only inherited from the other bands...
Kurt The Atheist | Reviewer: Jeff Upward | 6/13/07
To me it sounds like Kurt is saying Jesus doesn't want him because he doesn't believe in him or God. Kurt should therefore not feel any need to cry for or feel like he has any sins to be forgiven for. Therefore Jesus doesn't want him for a sunbeam, and as it happens Jesus doesn't want me either, but that's okay cause I don't believe in God either.
this is not a nirvana original song | Reviewer: Red | 4/4/07
Guys i just want to pointing out this: kurt never wrote this song, it was written by one of his favorites band, the vaselines, check it out.
Peace.

the song is a diss of a mormon church children's song called jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
I used to like this music, but... | Reviewer: T.J. Adami | 2/28/07
It is like he is trying to make a "non-sense" promotion of the band, and the music, speaking things about Jesus. Many rock/metal bands used to make citations of God, Jesus, Hell, Lucifer, and other spiritual arguments just to excite their fans. It appears to be a nice deal, as the humans are attracted to everything that goes on wrong way, or make some confront with dogmas or faith.
However... It is just reflections of a disturbed teen, rebelled with the whole world, and with himself.
