Whether it be religion or herion addiction, it was a [feeling] he was singing (to me it seems) about. He doesn't say, "I hate myself and want to die, cause I'm addicted to herion, or I hate myself and want to die, because theres no God." He's simply just singing feelings (again opinion, this is what I derive from it) that he has undergone due to some situation within his life. For me, I could relate to the words and song because I felt, some of the lyrics described my worst days during the aftermath of leaving my cheating abusive ex-boyfriend, I FELT like I hated myself, and wanted to die.
