My thoughts | Reviewer: Black Rabbit | 9/1/2007
I think that Kurt himself would love the fact that you all have such interesting and diverse thoughts on his music, and I also think that's what he had in mind when he wrote his songs, however, I don't think this song has to do with Courtney at all, I believe this song is directed at Kurts Mother. This is signified by the lyrics "let down your Embilical noose so I can climb right back" saying how his Mother would always be there to comfort him, or the lyric "Forever in debt to your priceless advice" saying his mother raised him a certain way, but when he got older he found that that just wasn't the way life really was. Haven't we all felt "locked inside your heart shaped box" in reference to how or mothers close us off from the worl to try to protect us from the world itself...again also described by the line "cut myself on angel hair and babies breath" saying she protected him from EVERYTHING! Anyway, these are just my thoughts, and as I said, I think Kurt would love to see us talking about his music in a sense thats trying to discifer it rather than tear it down, the man was a genious poet and I'm glad more people see that. R.I.P Kurt, take it easy man, suicide or homocide...Kurt had had enough I think, especially in knowing nothing was going to change......

I really think that NIRVANA is one of the most important band of all this times... the song, heart shaped box, means a lot to me is like a description of the things i'm living and thinking at the moment so i love the song and the band for many reasons. Besides i don´t think that a new band could ever comparese whit them at all, because right now all the bands talk about the same: girls, drugs, the bad of being young... there isn´t much inspiration or innovation...
so finish with that i just wanna say:
NiRvANa Is ThE BeSt!!GRUNGE
4 EVER!!
what i think =] | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/29/2007
i think the lyrics are about kurt being in love, but it being poisonous. he's been trapped by her love, thats why he describes it as a black tar pit. also he says he cuts himself on angels wings and babys breath, saying that beautiful things can hurt him. him saying he wishes he could eat her cancer means hes suffocated by her love, but he still wants to take pain away from her. He says that its her fault that hes trapped inside her heart shaped box because she eyes him when he is weak. it could be a reference to all women, or just courtney. thats what i think anyways. =]
best lyrics ever written. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/29/2007
kurt was a seriously messed up guy , but his music was, to me, the best music ever written. this song was based on a heart shaped box that courtney gave him ( reference in "heavier than heaven"- kurts biography by charles R. CROSS.) tbh, i have no idea what went on in kurts mind when he wsa writing this, and i dont think anyone could ever even try to imagine what he meant. kurt was well just KURT and i thank that man so unbelievably much for changhing my life. i love his music and i wouldnt change it for the entire world. i love you kurt, so much.
Replying to the Heart Shaped Box | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/25/2007
Well the connection i see with an actual heart shaped box, may be the concept beneath the heart shaped box: a consumistic symbol of love and dedication, that we offer to the people (we think) we love..."Ive been locked inside your heart shaped box for weeks", the heart shaped box is filled with, usually, chocolates, that we eat, which may explain the several times he uses the word eat in the song"eat your cancer" "meat eating orchids(a.k.a. women)"...Heart shaped boxes may also be used as a way of asking for our loved ones forgiveness, when we feel we've done something wrong we tend to make it up to person harmed, in this case our "loved" one:"Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet
Cut myself on Angel Hair and baby's breath
Broken hymen of your highness I'm left black
Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back" I interpret this bit as a way of asking for forgiveness, and as a way of trying to be in "his highness" good graces again..anyway thats the way i read according to the "heart shaped box P.O.V., though quite frankly i believe the song is much deeper than a simple Heart shaped box, its about dependence on others and about the way we feel we need somebody in our lives (I have a new complaint about you, but in the end I'm glad your here), my 2cents.
Sorry if my English isn't all that great as it isn't my first language. Long live nirvana!! BTW "Heart Shaped Box" and "Dumb" are my favorite songs;)
Lyrics meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/23/2007
I watched a documentary on Kurt and Courtney where they said this song was inspired by a real heart-shaped box that Courtney gave him..
I was trying to figure out what the lyrics had to do with that.. Do you guys have any idea?

Kurt 4ever | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/21/2007
Kurt Cobain was unique in many ways...he grew from a highschool geek who lived only to do music and he grew big...who said he shot himself because he couldnt handle fame?? Kurt loved fame, it was his way into society...because kurt was a very difficult person with a bit of a f*cked up personality...i dont believe in the whole suicide deal...i believe in homicide...but his death made him, alongside with his music (which has some of the best guitar chords and lyrics on the music world), made him the star he is today and he will always live on in his music...All hail Kurt Cobain a musical genius who did music for love...."It's better to burn out than to fade away."

The ultimate love song ever written. | Reviewer: Marc | 8/17/2007
Look at it this way, you may like Nirvana, or you may hate it. But you must admit that Kurt did have a way with music. He changed the way music is played and written in a great way. I personally belive this is the best....No...Ultimate love song ever written. But hey! That's only my opinion. So to those who hate Nirvana, I say "Fuck you and quit looking up Nirvana lyrics if you hate it so much, your single opinion will not change the world and how it responds to this great band. Go back to listening to your 50 Cent and leave us true music lovers along." To those who love Nirvana, I say to you "Keep it up and contenue the fight against those who shall oppose you and I love you guys for that. (strictly friendly love)"
