One cause of this is the vocals: the main voice lead is oftentimes very over-used. There are many segments of the song in which vocals are used where it would be much better without them. In addition, his voice is unrefined, and almost painful at points. ("Cay-un-currrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...") The guitar work is simplistic, and there's just a lot more that could have been done for this song. It's not a bad tune, but it could use a lot of work.
