The Reviews about Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle (page 1/1)
------ performed by Nirvana

A song that helps, always | Reviewer: thedudeabides | 7/8/09

this is a powerful song, and the insight to the human condition stands out amongst the rest of the Nirvana catalog (though there's a lot of good stuff there).

To me, the line "I miss the comfort in being sad" has always been about hope. If you're sad, if you're at rock bottom, there's little that can make things worse. Things are bound to get better. This line is one of my life lessons and one that I'll fit into conversations with my friends and family.

My Interpretation | Reviewer: Bob007 | 6/24/09

When I listen to this song, I think of like this: If it makes people relaxed, soothed, relieved--basically happy--to know that people in general are so money hungry and selfish; he misses the comfort in being sad. It's almost like the whole "ignorance is bliss" idea; you'll be happier than anyone if you're completely ignorant, but some people would rather be informed, and have knowledge even if it may make them sad... I don't know if that made sense to anyone else, I'm kind of bad at explaining things, but whatever. Oh, and sorry for the improper overusage of commas and semi-colons, it's a bad habit of mine.

Kurt Cobain & Frances Farmer=SEATTLE AFFINITY | Reviewer: Gail Powell | 12/4/08

This song is somewhat nonsensical but I know Cobain clearly identified with Frances Farmer and the fact that she was considered insane and wacky. He always had a weird, deviant sense of humor (if you read about him in the book, "Heavier Than Heaven" and Frances Farmer was just bizarre enough to attract his attention and lyrical devotion!

Kurt | Reviewer: Lauren | 6/24/08

Kurt Cobain was a genius on many levels, and this song just goes to prove it. He had a way of capturing his audiences attention, and relating with them without really trying to do that. Not many can do what he has done.

RIP Kurt Cobain, you helped to save the world.

"I Miss the Comfort of Being Sad" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/4/08

I truly love this song by Nirvana. Kurt wrote this about the actress Frances Farmer (who his daughter is not named after). Frances Farmer was hosopitalized for being insane and was a firm atheist. Kurt saw himself and her a lot of the same so wrote this song about her. I find these lyrics very meaninful especially with "To see if they float or drown". Which was a way in the Medivel Ages and New Salem Witch Trials to see if someone was a witch or not. Truly an amazing song!

R.I.P. Kurt Cobain
