To TimmyC.. I would've never thought of this song as mother/child related and it's great that you saw it in a different way, I mean at least you didn't think it was about drugs, but I really doubt that Kurt would've sung about something like this. Really really doubt.

And to "annoyed", you're brilliant.

It is easy to say that most of Nirvana's lyrics, especially coming from Kurt, are about heroin use and a negative outlook towards the world. However, after reading about Kurt Cobain, I have found that he liked to play tricks on his listeners through word play. There are many lines in this song that could easily lead one to believe it is about his heroin use: "I travel through a tube" "The water is so yellow" "... my duty to ... drain you". I agree that these lines, out of context, are a poeticly describing cooking heroin up and sucking it through a syringe; however, the song in its entirety I believe is about young girls getting pregnant unexpectedly. Sociologists are always commenting on "babys having babys", and thats what Kurt is saying when he sings, "One baby to another says I'm lucky to have met you." The beauty of this song is that the lyrics can go in two directions, one from the child's point of view and one from the mother's point of view. Neither one of them knows the other; yet, they know that they are lucky to have met one another because they keep one another alive. The mother nourishes the baby in the womb and the baby gives the mother a reason to live. "Indebted and so grateful, vacuum out the fluids" (Amniotic fluid) The part about chewing the meat for you from my mouth to yours is describing the fact that the mother chews food and is idirectly chewing it for the child because the nourishment is transfused to the baby through the umbilical cord. The two directional thing can be applied here as well in that the mother chews meat for the baby to be nourished, and the baby is symbolically "chewing" the mothers "meat" in that it is eating whatever she eats. Finally, the line "I travel through a tube and end up in your infection" This is obviously about the birth, the birth canal is the tube, and life is the infection. ... One last comment... The line goes "I like you" rather than "I love you" because the two have never met before and do not know one another and love is something that must be built on and worked upon in order to be called "LOVE".

I just want to elaborate on the idea of Kurt's "sociopathic" mindset that "Izzy" determined. If Kurt was a sociopath he would probably still be alive because of his personality and decision making. He had severe depression and it was devastating that he resorted to heroin, which led to his death. He wasnt rebellious in terms of 'wildness', but he saw the world for what it was.All of his lyrics express his disgust with people in general. This song is about relationships today. We live in such a individualistic society where we chose our partners according to the use we get from them. And as a result they drain eachother.Vitamins are symbolic for the additional nurturing of the ego each partner infuses into one another. In all of his songs he expresses this frustration passively because he feels there is nothing he can do about it.His insight and attitude towards the world is portrayed through his heroin use. I mean the man held on to this life as long as he could by self medicating himself and inspiring music. He was one of the few I see as a real person. If you look at the message he sends through all of his songs, there is unconditioned truth that he expresses towards the world. In 'smells like teen spirit' he sends the ultimate example of people, specifically at there peak of selfishness. Identifying us as 'entertainers' staging ourselves according to the set of audience that identifies to us.We all deny ourselves so we lose ourselves through our fake identies. I could go on about this mans brilliant ways of conveying the truth but I only need to point out that this man was anything but a sociopath. If anything,he just identifies the pattern of people masking their ugly ways through manipulating the elements in their lives (they not having a conscience=sociopath). Also, just by medicalizing his attitude underlies an ignorance you have towards reality.

The 90's | Reviewer: Norris | 10/13/07

The 90's were just the best decade of music... The whole alternative genre that was born in the Nineties was a Perfect group of music... Look at bands like Bush, absolutley Nirvana, Garbage, Smashing Pumkins. this was a time to remember... Look up woodstock 99 on you tube, sevendust (Bitch).
Incredible energy... Check it!!!

Mind. | Reviewer: Izzy | 9/29/07

If you really pay attention to his journals and his music, most of them have a Sociopathic mindset. What I love about Kurt is that he released those thoughts and feelings into his music, instead of actually hurting people with the obvious woes of being a sociopath. If you need a better definition of the word, try Wikipedia. Aside, my statement is true. You'll notice it in almost all of his songs.

Wayyy | Reviewer: SonnyJ | 8/29/07

'From my mouth to yours', The tip of the needle being one mouth, his vein being the other maybe. It was his passionate kiss, injecting heroin.

As good as, if not better than teen spirit. Super. | Reviewer: Sonny | 8/29/07

Drain you is a great song from a great album. It sounds like 'his drug' is talking to 'him' in one or two lines. 'It is now my duty to completely drain you, i travel through a tube and end up in your infection'. If heroin could talk to you it would probably say that. And didn't he have a stomach infection. Fantastic songwriting! RIP Kurt.
