Come As You Are & be confident! | Reviewer: Rosalee | 3/21/11
The song is about being who you really are - authentic. Be who you are whether it be a friend, enemy, lover etc. "Dont have a gun" means to bring about peace. Kurt is a leader he is saying "I accept you whoever you are and whatever you are, so come as you are." Kurt just wants to bring about peace. He is a leader.

It might refer to a conversation He and I had on the phone in 1986.The don't have a gun comment is relevant as is the "old enemy" and "old memory" bits. But who knows? It was an intense conversation due to his state of mind that night.
And I don't expect anyone to believe me,as most people don't realize he was an actual real person, not a photo image.
"Me moría"? | Reviewer: Michael | 8/21/10
To the poster who brought up the idea about "Memory ah" being "me moría" (Spanish), I think that's entirely possible. The way he pronounces it, he puts the stress on the "i"; when you do that, it's exactly the same as "me moría" (note the accent mark), which means "I was dying". And with the reflexive "me" it adds more heft to it. Me moría cuando...
me moria | Reviewer: Manuel | 8/2/10
The other day (today) i was stoned... but VERY stoned, and i listen ME MORIA what in english is: "I was dying" literally.
In spaniard but i lived in us,so i can understand both languages.
I'm not christian is just an observation, Kurt, he is just fabulous, he put a subliminal message in spanish!!! and he was american !!!!
Does anybody thinks that?
As I want you to be. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/18/10
This song is solely about the fans. Cobain wants the fans to come "as they are" meaning doused in mud, soaked in bleach, etc... as long as they make it to the show, he wants them to be a memory.
Source: an interview with Cobain from an old local radio dj 94.9Zeta, replayed on that station's replacement: 93rock.

Old Kurt | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/10/10
Kurt Never Wanted His Lyrics Analyzed, He thought the music was the most important part, that is why he often add lyrics in late. He also often changed lyrics while playing live. To him words are just another instrument.
Gun doused in mud soaked in bleach | Reviewer: thoughtchallenge | 5/10/10
Not from any personal experience or anything, but it sounds like he's talking about shooting up. The friend is the drug, his now old enemy. The gun is a dirty syringe, hence; doused in mud then soaked in bleach(to sterilize it). take a rest and memory ah, relate to the buzz. The song has a double meaning in the idea of an old friend/enemy being invited to join him. He swears he doesn't have a gun, meaning he's hiding a gun.
Memoria | Reviewer: James | 4/9/10
Ever since i first heard this song I interpreted it as "a memory of..." or "memory ahh" (as is suggested here) for the closing line. I've read in a few places recently that its actually "Memoria" or "Me moria" which im guessing means something in spanish... i heard someone insinuating it meant "I was dying" - no clue. Anyway, i hope someone could shed some light on this for me. I also find it interesting how interchangable "gun" is with "God" in kurt's Seattle brogue, anyone else notice this. Regardless, its an amazing, eerie and beautiful song with appreciating. RIP Kurdt.

all you people are crazy...its a song with a good beat and rhythm, so fuckin' enjoy it. and the "christians can't listen to this" is bullshit. im a diehard christian and i listen to fuckin' disturbed! nirvana was not a satanic or evil band, they were just made out as such because of kurt's suicide.

Actually Kurt was not Athiest he never found a religon but I think he believed in Budhism he had his ashes given to a budist to make into sculpture.
Oh just because someone is Christain doesn't mean they can't listen to certain music. I believe what aaron said about the song. That is just my thoughts
R.I.P Kurt
Cobain, Christ and Rumi converge | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/26/10
This past Christmas we lost another great lyrical painter who happened to be a professed atheist, Vic Chesnutt. Both Vic and Kurt Cobain have impacted my life deeply with their lyrics. I am sad that they are gone. I am thankful for what they left behind. Their lyrics hit me in a deep place, for me it is a spiritual place. As a Christian I accept them as the same as me, made in the image of God but fucked up by life in general. I have always been amazed at how "Come as you Are" is like a lyrical echo of "Come unto me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest". The great Persian poet, the Sufi mystic named Rumi says "Come, come, whoever you are ... Wanderer, idolator, worshipper of fire come even though you have broken your vows a thousand times Come, and come yet again ... Ours is not a caravan of despair". For me, Cobain's lyrics originate from the same source that The Christ and Rumi's came from. Three men, almost a millenium apart from one another all speaking the same language.
Analyze | Reviewer: ibleedamerican2 | 2/9/10
Hi didn't want the lyrics analyzed for TWO reasons. 1. Because he was trying to distance the personal songs from the fans as much as possible; he was very private, and 2. he knew some of the lyrics would be controversial. I analyze lyrics because i'm a lyricists. I write songs, and welcome Kurt's prowess in imagery and apparent monotony and how he tended to create stories out of them. We can interpret the mwhatever way we want. H didn't say we couldn't, he said he doesn't want us to. But then again, Kurt himself wasn't one to listen was he?
Here to save you all | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/27/10
Look lets not worry about being sensitive to kurt. I'm not sure, but i'm almost positive that he dosen't give a fuck anymore. He's was a grunge god, and now he is gone. Most of ya'll christians and shouldnt be listening to this anyway. Kurt was an outspoken atheist. It's a sin everytime you sync one of his song to your ipod. Your making a playlist of hell, god gone to play those songs when your burning in a "Lake of Fire." Quick Save Your Soulsssss!!! lol
