The Reviews about About A Girl (page 2/ 5)
------ performed by Nirvana

Right version.. | Reviewer: InLoveWithMalice | 1/11/08

Timo,the right version was

"I need an easy friend
I do with an ear to lend
I do think you fit this shoe
I do won't you have a clue.."

I actually memorized the lyrics xP I'm a proud Nirvana and Kurt freak =D

twaj, your interpretation is quite interesting.. however that is false. This song is about his ex-girlfriend Tracy. Although I can't help to wonder..what will happen if Kurt and Tracy married instead of Kurt and Courtney..hmmm..though I know that's highly impossible but hey,I'm curious.

What's right? | Reviewer: Timo | 1/4/08

I'm looking for the lyrics of the song,
and because Kurt sings not very clear
(sometimes you can not hear the words he's is singing - i like ;) ), but i'm finding 2 versions of this song (lyrics):

1:
I need an easy friend I do
whip her into land I do

2:
I need an easy friend
I do, With an ear to lend

it's not a big different but i was wondering wich one is right,

nirvana, about a girl | Reviewer: pennylane | 1/4/08

i've read in a book entitled courtney love: the real story (love's biography) that this song was written for a girl who Kurt once dated, Tracy Marander. It was then that Courtney and Kurt met. Funny it is, but Kurt and Courtney rumbled when Courtney called Tracy fat.

hehe, maybe you're all right.
I love Nirvana almost as much as I love the beattles.. you can clearly see the beattles' influence on Kurt's style in this song :)

I didn't read the bio, but I think that the meaning of a song doesn't exist outside of the song itself. If it's suppose to be about something, but nothing within the song hints to that, it's not really about that... you get what I mean?

In this light, the call upon a biography may indicate something about the intent more than really about the content. Plus, as a guy pointed out, Cobain didn't like to reveal too much and he's famous for lying about what his songs are about.

Personally, I would argue that this isn't a girlfriend, its in fact a prostitute. But the intesity drives from teh fact that he's not seeing her for sex, he's seeing her to fill a void (probably an emotional one) in his life. There's something so dark and intense about paying a cheap whore for her ears rather than her... well, you know.

We don't want to fight, come on! (Altamont 1969) | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/8/07

Jeez guys just hang fire a bit! You're taking things a little bit too seriously. Just appreciate Kurt's legacy & stop all yer silly bickerin'...Enjoy the songs. By the way, kurt loved the Beatles! Particularly John Lennon. You only need to see "Classis albums Nevermind" to figure that...

"because he loved her so much" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/5/07

What bollocks, he wrote the song for his then girlfriend because she asked him. If you actually listen to the song, it's not so flattering. "i need an easy friend... with an ear to lend... won't you have a clue" etc. Seriously, this is no love song.

It's amazing though.

NIRVANA IS AMAZING | Reviewer: laura | 11/14/07

THIS SONG IS TOTALLY CREATED BY KURT BECAUSE HE HAD THE MANY FELLINGS MANY DREAMS AND THIS SONG IS ABOUT HIS EX GIRL FRIEND CALLED TRACY MARANDER BECAUSE HE LOVED SOO MUCH

Absolute crap. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/14/07

Heavier Than Heaven was a load of shit. Or "Courtney approved" in other words. There are parts of the book that are true of course, but you should read a book called "Love And Death" by Max Wallace and Ian Halperin. Fills in the things that just don't make sense.

In other news, this is a great song.

i believe | Reviewer: anonymous | 11/14/07

that these are not the original lyrics to this song and they were changed by nirvana's label...my evidence...the silver box album...listen to about a girl

interpretation | Reviewer: twaj | 11/6/07

It sounds like it's about a prostitute. He has some things in there that apply specifically to whores. For example, they stand in lines and in some places (think Thailand) wear numbers so you can pick them more easily. Cobain was notorious for not telling what his songs were really about - he told NPR that 'Rape Me' was about Bosnia. Obviously he was taking the piss.
