Only | Reviewer: Tekla | 6/15/07

I agree with Jen the song is about getting rid mind control - whether it's a god or boyfriend

GREAT | Reviewer: Vanessa | 5/16/07

Written like a true poet---full of angst and truth...
I've been writing since 1970 so I know when I hear a great, original writer.

This song is such a great song lyricly. I think the only person know knows exactly wot this song is is trent. But I think hes talkin about a voice in his head, one that tell him 2 do things, That end up with him hurting himself, and so he's tryin to tell himself that this voice doesnt exsit, and he made it up, and it needs to go.
and the scab bit is him playin with the idea of the voice, coz if he had of ignored it it wudnt of exsited, but by picking at it (playing with the idea) its made it worse till it cat be ignored.
Just an opinion, wonder what u guys thnk???
Tristan

Am I the only person who thinks this song is not only about conquering drug addiction, but also about conquering the whole "Yes I believe in God and if I don't I will burn in eternal flames?" The fear of god which has been drilled into so many of us - now he simply says, it turns out i'm alone and i always was - you were never really real to begin with. i just made you up to hurt myself. there is no you (GOD) there is only me.

Nine Inch Nails - Only (Richard X remix) | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/6/06

I had lost track of Nine Inch Nails for some time...and just got my hands on the Only-Richard X remix.
Well, even without hearing the original version (or album), I have to say
the remix is great. Some folks won't like what I'm saying, but Richard X did a fine job. Great dance beat with loops that remind you of an old Jesus Loves You song (you know, Boy George ;-) but with phat gitars and a gloomy athmosphere that takes me back to the NIN-90's. Some of the lyrics were not used so it may take you to a bit faster to the refrain, pitty, the remix might have taken 5 minutes more with all of the words as intended, but for itself : A Classic.
Might be played at the more indie venues, okay, because it would seem strange to see the so called breezah bitches sing along with it on the dancefloor in their hippest outfits and hairextensions ;-)
And, yes, now I'm going to listen to the original for sure !

NIN - Only | Reviewer: Tony | 2/2/06

Great song and great lyrics. Trent thinks his lyrics through, down to the
very bottom. I wonder how many among the listeners notice the ambiguities
in his lyrics, for example in this one: 'there is no fucking you, there is only me', in which there exists - along with the surface meaning - a meaning:
'ultimately you can only fuck yourself up'. I've found myself many times thinking similarly to what NIN bring forth in their songs and it's been
an amazing and a helpful experience to know that there are others battling against it all. Keep up the excellent work!

Mwahhh | Reviewer: KiKi | 10/28/05

To Trent! I made a few of them up myself, and picked a scab or two!!! And "shhhh", I can see right through myself! Awesome lyric's, in my opinion!
