The Reviews about The Poet And The Pendulum (page 3/ 8)
------ performed by Nightwish

changes... | Reviewer: Vakonda | 3/19/09

Nightwish had their special sound, becuase of great combination in instrumnetal parts and words. Tarja and all others were great while they lived as one organism. Here, i feel a band creates songs for Anette, she just sings words, wrotten not by her or "team work". Might be, they will become one and complete, but i doubt...

Another powerful song. | Reviewer: Nightwish Lover | 3/18/09

When I first heard this song I guess I didn't really take the time to listen to it that it deserved. After hearing it again I fell in love with it. These lyrics inspired the usual thought provoking and when you feel what Tuomas is conveying with them its heart wrenching as always. I absolutely adore Anette's voice, especially in the beginning. It's very haunting and beautiful. I loved Tarja, and I love Anette also. They are not the first band to change singers, nor will they be the last. Whatever reason for the past issues, it is their own and it's not for us to decide or lay blame. It is just that actually, the past and it's time to let it go and move on.

Nightwish is still awesome! | Reviewer: Ace | 3/17/09

This song is breathetaking!!! It has a very meaningful concept, and it stole my heart. Toumas once again proved that Nightwish is an outstanding band!

Although I prefer Tarja to sing most part. It's timing, as some dude said before me, was designed to fit mostly for Tarja's voice. But then, I prefer Annete singing the "Mother and Father" part of the song. She has a lullabaic voice, and it fits that part. I just wish Nighwish made both past and present singers sing this beautiful song, and I know it will be a better, more dramatic, and a lot more goosebumping. I love both singers, they are very convincingly good. But Annete should not try singing songs that Tarja originally sang, and vice versa. But I would loke to hear both singers sing in one album, together and perform here in U.S.A. together with the band. This request might not be posible, since the letter Toumas handed Tarja meantioned "I could not write any more song for you" and it's really disappointing.

Anyways, keep up the excellent work Nightwish, and you always have a fan in Guam, U.S.A.!!!

Taking more time to consider | Reviewer: Lee | 2/15/09

Well, judging by the timing (in terms of when this piece was written), it seems that this was penned more for Tarja's vocals. I can certainly hear her singing this. I must say that I prefer Marco as lead in the demo version. I'm trying to be open minded though about Anette and give her a chance. Having said this, I think the range is a bit of a stretch and tend to avoid the album version. I have to trust that Nightwish strongly felt this was the direction they wanted to take the female vocals. This definitely is one of their best. The music is still there. I'll take it, regardless of the change in female vocalists.

Not so impressed | Reviewer: Minaz | 2/13/09

I've seen a video of this song when they lived.
The part- 'Sparkling my scenery...'
She had to lower her voice and sing with very low sound and that made me feel so bad about it. Because Tarja never did this when she lived on stage, always exactly the same with the CD. The band tried to convince the fans that Annette can sing better but they completely failed because of this. They should to consider about this more...

Great music but disappointed in the band | Reviewer: Mary | 2/9/09

i loved Nightwish with Tarja work but didn't follow much what happened with the band. Some friend told me Tarja was kicked out of the band, i was still optimistic that this could occour to any band. Tarja and the band must have had some reason. Anyway, i had a chance to listen to Nightwish with Anette mp3 and then fell in love with The Poet and the Pendulum expecially instrumental version. The music was composed best ever of Nightwish songs in my opinion. Although Anette's voice is more pop and can't be compared with Tarja's unique voice, it's not that bad. I thot i should give her and the band a chance. It's also challenging for the band to compose the song for new vocalist.

i was going to buy DVD concert live at Hartwall Areena (Tarja and the band) + 2 cds of Dark passion play until a few days ago....

i found the letter of the band telling why they dismissed Tarja and read Tarja's responded letter. My God, i don't know what's going on and how bad Tarja did but doing such a thing - just giving her a letter after the successful concert to fire her at once and posted the letter on the website to humiliate for a while is so mean!! i can't believe you guys could do this for a friend you worked with for almost 10 years. If you don't like what the band member did, you should have discussed about that and told her beforehand that you could not work with anymore. You guys said she betrayed you, maybe she did something very bad but what you did is not very good either. Even talking's her back on the lyrics of the new album, this really ruined the music!! Ok, your music is great, but sorry that i already lost faith in you guys and don't feel like supporting your hard work anymore. but this won't affect anything to you cuz i was just a small fan. i just wish Tarja and the band broke up in happy way.

Good luck Nightwish.

Since Tarja | Reviewer: Gordz | 1/31/09

Saw annette live in melbourne '08. FANTASTIC at the songs Tuomas wrote for her. Absolutely soul crushing to see her atempt Tarja's songs. Leave them in the past PLEASE... Anettes range simply can't compare. Nightwish remains my fav band ever. Can't wait for their follow up album with Anette behind the mic. Good luck NW, love always.

Breathtaking | Reviewer: Rachel | 1/25/09

Annette really sounds fantastic in this song. This whole song is so amazingly breathtaking. Her killer vocals, Marco's awesome solo, the chilling lyrics, the amazing instrumental and the voice speaking make the song one of the best songs ever written. I can listen to this song over and over again and it never gets old. Each time I listen to it, i still get chills.

This song is a masterpeice and anyone who doesn't think Anette can sing can obviously not recognize good singing when they hear it.

PS- a previous reviewer asked if anybody else here is from America, I am! I also know two other Nightwish fans, but I was the one who introduced them to the band, so i guess that doesn't really count! But i also agree that this is way way way better than all the stuff that is topping the chart today.

Wow...just...wow. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/20/09

These lyrics were really very heart-felt and interesting to me. Perfect song for when I write. I don't really prefer one singer or the other, but this was just...wow. She really out-did herself. Nicely done. :)

Epic and Beautiful | Reviewer: darkangel13 | 12/16/08

This is one of the best songs i've ever heard in my life. Anette has proven herself and tuomas in a genius. This song is epic and just plain morbid and scaru woth hints of beauty within the song. it makes me shiver in fright and want to listen to it more. Well done Nightwish.
