The Reviews about The Poet And The Pendulum (page 7/ 8)
------ performed by Nightwish

fantastic | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/9/07

I think Marco's part is realy great. It gives the song great amount of energy.. It's realy hardcore..
I don't know why someone could not like this..
It reminds me a "Slaying the dreamer" ending...

I believe that Anette does a wonderful job in liue of Tarja. Tehy both had very wonderfully unique voices and have so far been wonderful contributions to the uniqui sounds of Nightwish. Greatest album of all of em so far.

not sure | Reviewer: PinkSkull | 12/3/07

I think I understand why Thuomas feels this is his best song, He must have beend depressed and desperate, maybe because of Tarja's departure (because the song says something about friends betarying and spitting on his grave), so he wrote about his own death..
On the song itself, i'm not sure what to say, the instrumentals are awesome, tho it reminds me of disney movies, the lyrics are very deep, I can say the song itself is composed really well. I tried to listen to it without thinking it was nightwish, since i'm SO against anette, she's too poppy for the band, but there's nothing i can do about it, i sing even worse.. I really love the chorus, it gives me energy, the slow parts give a nice interlude, but oh God! Annete's off voice sucks, or whoever the girl who spoke is, i dont like it.. Marco's part doesnt sound as nightwish's either, it sounds like something i would expect from another group, it's kinda hardcore, if you know what i mean, i like it, since it's heavy, but it isn't something i wouldnt expect from nightwish,in my opinion, the songs i heard from this album dont sound bad, but they sound kinda amateur, like it's their first album, they are mostly at the same tone and they sound like other bands...
I think this song would be bette rif it ended in the 'SaveMe!', the slow ending kinda ruins it (for me).
Conlusion: 3.8/5

Not the same... | Reviewer: Emmi | 11/30/07

I have always loved Nightwish and I am very disappointed with the selecting of Annette. Her voice can't even compare with Tarja! Especially on this song. Annette's voice wasn't quite right for this style...but I do love the song, just wish that Tarja hadn't left. =(

Hmmmmmmmmmm... | Reviewer: Nazneen | 11/23/07

I'm listening to this song for the first time now. I don't really know why Tuomas claims this to be his best ever composition. I find it to be somewhat... disjointed. Not what I would expect from a usually seamless composer like Tuomas. The symphony music is amazing, but the song doesn't fit together perfectly and flow in the way Ghost Love Score did. Also, I find that Annete's voice doesn't gel with the band's sound in bits. She's good on the softer bits, which I really like (though she could inject a little more emotion into her voice, as currently most of the emotion comes from the amazing backing music), but the moment the guitar comes into the picture, she starts sounding utterly poppy and ruining the lovely lyrics. And Marco (though I love him) was an unnecessary addition to the song. All in all, Nightwish will carry on, but with the somewhat weird and disjointed mix of pop and metal they are currently exhibiting rather than with the symphonic opera metal beauty they used to give us.

The lyrics is just too good. And sweet jesus, the composition is a rockstar itself. As for Anette, i dont like her all that much. She's a good singer, no doubt, but her contrast with Tarja does hit the ears a lot. They're just black and white. But, good work, Anette.

Amazing | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/8/07

I have every Nightwish album from Angels Fall First to Dark Passion Play, and currently "The Poet and the Pendulum" is my favorite song (followed closely by "Ghost Love Score" off the Once album). Amazing voice, stellar choir and orchestration, truly an awesome feat in the world of music. Tuomas Holopainen said that this was the album that saved his life, and that most of the songs were an open diary about his life. To think that one man wrote every note to every instrument to every part of this song is nothing less than incredible, and is very profound. I give Poet and the Pendulum 5 out of 5 stars.
