Tuomas does an amazing job with the lyrics. I mean, all the symbolism that's in the words. The songs are sort of complex when you think about it; but they're beautiful to listen to as well. Kind of like Within Temptation. Evanescence is more alternative than symphonic rock; they took a while to grow on me, but I like them. (Also, I take back what I said about Amy Lee having a head cold. :) )
I Have Never Listened To Nightwish Before | Reviewer: Keavey | 11/28/08
I have never listened to nightwish before tonight, when I threw on a plethora or random Nightwish music, on shuffle, and listened. This was the 10th song, and the first to spark a particular intrest. I listened to both Tarja and Anette, and I didn't know the difference.
I have to say, this is a beautiful and incredibly haunting song. It's creepy. I like it. Anyway, I wanted to say that be it Tarja or Anette, this is an amazing song.
Astounding | Reviewer: Jordan | 11/27/08
This song absolutely blew me away when I first heard it. I think it's one of their best songs since Tarja left. But, I think it's a little ahead of it's time. I can see this song being more appreciated about a decade or two down the road, instead of now, while people aren't into this kind of thing.
But, I also think Tarja was much better vocally than Annette. Tarja had such a large range, her voice was clear, crisp and could create nearly any emotion. Annette is talented, surely, but not vocally compared to Tarja.
That being said, let me point out that Nightwish is still Nightwish. Tuomas is still portraying his musical genius by using Annette's voice to it's best potential. Tarja just wouldn't fit in these songs, but Annette isn't fit singing Tarja's songs either. Think of how she'd be singing End of all Hope or Planet Hell..(I'm not sure if she already sang these already, but eh..). The point is, Tarja's gone, we all have to accept that. She's still an amazing vocalist. Nightwish is still a great band, just changed to suit Annette's voice better. So please, stop saying that Nightwish isn't Nightwish anymore, and whatnot. Just..enjoy the music.
outstanding | Reviewer: Laura von Awesome | 11/21/08
I admit it... The new album took a LONG time to grow on me, since I wasn't sure that Anette was the right vocalist for the band. But since my love lies with Tuomas and Nightwish, I soon came to appreciate their evolution as a band, including the new singer.
Admittedly, I'm still a HUGE fan of Tarja. My favourite NW songs of all time would have to be "Wishmaster", "Sleeping Sun", and "Come Cover Me", but I'm sure that this one will eventually be among them. I see no need for anyone to hate on either Tarja or Anette, as they have both given life to Tuomas' beautiful compositions.
von Awesome out!
Good^^ | Reviewer: Minaz | 11/14/08
Really wish I could hear this song with Tarja singing
Nightwish has changed a lot, since Tarja was gone,Into the very different way.
Less opera and more rock
Annette's voice is great but I think it doesn't siut with Tarja's songs
It was really not good to me when I hear Annette sang Nemo
But in this album 'Dark Passion Play'
I like the song called 'Last of the wild'
I can't really undertand why the keybordist, whatever his name is, could create so many many great songs.
Personnally, I think Ghost Love Score is better than THIS. More beautiful melody and I think even better lyrics. I fell in love with Ghost love score only once I heard it
But with this song, I had to listen to it quite many times to get what they wanted to tell us
I am also a musician and I play in the band, too.
So I understand if u wanna dismiss one of the band's member, that means it's really, really great deal. Playiong and touring together we need more than just talent and ability, personallities are much important than those.
So good luck with Tarja and Anette.
Both of them had influenced on my guitar style^^
Reflection | Reviewer: Lea | 11/3/08
This is a really good song =) I love it, kinda reminds me what's goin on in me own little head at the moment...Annette is doing an awesome job, she has a wonderful voice as does the original Lady Tarja...personally...I wonder what the badn would have been like if they BOTH had been in it from the beginning...hmmmm...
Best Music Ever | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/24/08
What is with people today? I agree with you guys, this is much better than that pop/rap stuff that's in style. And even the gothic rock bands in the US, like Evanescence, Amy Lee sings like she's got a head cold or something. And people actually like it.
Oh well... LOVE Nightwish, Love Anette, Love Tarja, it's all good. Escapist is the best Nightwish song, though.
Anette vs. Tarja | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/26/08
I am a big fan of Nightwish and Tarja...anyway this song is amazing, even though anette sings it..the only thing I hate about anette is her clothing on the stage (tarja was so,so so elegant)..and the fact that she sings "tarja-specialities"..they are made for tarja's voice only..Anette should concentrate on her own album, and forget all Tarja's songs..anyway I love Tarja much much much more than anette..she was so different.. All the best to the fans
Why isnt anybody talking about the lyric? | Reviewer: Rei | 9/24/08
i'm really sad because its like the band is suffering and is especially notorious in this song, as if toumas was writing his last will.
They're coming to my country in november, so i hope to see Anette's performance on stage to have a better opinion about her as nightwish singer.
brilliant! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/17/08
I have been a huge fan of Nightwish for a long time, and of Tarja Turunen. Admittedly, I didn't like the new album at first, and Anette's voice took a while to grow on me, but she is definitely very talented. Though I still am a fan of Tarja, my love also lies with Tuomas and his beautiful music, of which this is no exception.
This song is an epic, along the same lines as Ghost Love Score and Wishmaster, and I echo the sentiments of my fellow reviewers in wishing that this type of music will replace the pop/rap garbage that is en vogue at the moment. My best wishes to the band, and to you, the fans.
