For those of you who think that Nightwish is no longer Nightwish because Tarja is no longer with them, go listen to their older stuff. I'm tired of hearing people debate over who the better lead singer is.

This song is wonderful. Tuomas's lyrics never cease to amaze me.
And also about Lana's review. Clearly, you do not know much about classic rock or metal music - at all -. Marco's voice IS metal-styled - and they are DEFINITLEY NOT trying to sound like Slipknot. That's a different kind of music all together. As was said before, Tarja IS a trained opera singer. DUH.
Excellent | Reviewer: Nico | 2/2/09
This is a brilliant song in typical old nightwish style :D
an in reply to lana's review, you clearly don'tknow much about Nightwish, especiall if you're a fan of the newer stuff - Tarja is a trained operatic vocalist an Marco is a metal-styled vocalist

Lana, that's the awesome thing about Metal, it can be done any way the artist wants, just so long as it's still basically metal.

This particular song sounds like an attempt for opera and while I'm not convinced it came that close, the singers do a very good job with it. The lyrics are very catchy but the best part of it by far is the tune. It gets into your mind easily and stays there for days upon days. I first heard it to an AMV of the Slayers TRY season for Valgaav and fell to addiction for this song. I have the live version downloaded but I want the one that was off of the AMV; the live version's not as good as it, but they're still both highly worth checking into.
The vocals pull great stunts with their voices it took most people I know who can do it a couple years to get and, while the words are kind of hard to understand the first few times, it's still a song that anyone who's a fan of angst and kill-you-all drama kings/queens would probably love as much as I do.
The guy who sings the lines "Wake up, mow the weed" through "I truly hate you all" sounds like he's trying to do heavy metal or something like Slipknot and Murderdolls would pull but despite that it turns out really well; especially when the female vocalist comes back into the picture near the very end for the abruptly ended "oh"'s or whatever you want to call them. I can see that being a church-like thing as well as an opera event.
I just wouldn't recommend letting your psychiatrist know you listen to this kind of music nor that you try to scream as loudly and hard as the person doing the final lines of the song does; that's extreme pain because I've tried it.
All in all, Nightwish's "Slaying the Dreamer" is an absolutely wonderful, catchy piece of music that fits together varieties of different types of music to pull it all together into a song that many people I've talked to about it have become addicted to. Is there, by any chance, a public support group out there for people addicted to Nightwish?
