Tarja was AMAZING! don't get me wrong- but have you listened to Dark Passion Play? have you TRULY heard Anette's voice? in the first song ' The Poet and the Pendulum' Anette sings the beginning with this wonderful opera style voice - similar to Tarja's.and in Part 2 of the song "Home" you can hear her hardcore voice which is sooo beautiful. i trust in Tuomas...i know that he won't let this band go to Hell.and i think he made the right choice by choosing Anette....my 48 yr. old MOM listens to Nightwish now b/c of the change. I AGREE with Anonymous of 11/23/2007. saying who's better than who is like saying the number 2 is better than the number 3! the only thing that matters is the total you get in the end!b/c when you add them up..OR subtract them...you still get a number! I think that annette is okay but i dont think she should sing the old nightwish songs because they werent made to suit her voice. Anette not only sounds like an 80s pop singer but she dresses and even moves like an early days Madonna. I think its fun and fresh and exciting. The opera diva was very cool but let's face it, sad as it is, Tarja is OUT and anette is IN- its not a question of loyalty its a question of lookin ahead to the future. Why the Annette Hate? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/23/07 I've only heard "Amaranth" and while Annette sounds nothing like Tarja, it's just because they both sing in drastically different styles. Tarja had that glorious opera voice while Annette has something more 80s pop (that's how it sounds to me, anyway) which I personally really like. Come on, guys-- they're both powerful. Also, new stuff is never the same as the old stuff, especially if a band member gets replaced. Tarja's not necessarily "better"; she's what we're used to hearing and Annette's new and doesn't sing in the style Tarja did. Apples and oranges, folks. In music, you cannot compare two different styles and determine which is better. You can say how they're different and be fine, but everything else is subjective. They are strong, they are clear, they are on pitch... In this way, they're equal. Style-wise? They're on opposite sides of the spectrum. I kinda like that they decided to change up the style, though. Let's hope that Annette lasts. Tarja - Annette | Reviewer: karmila | 11/16/07 I am a fun of Tarja Turunen.I find her voice amazing,and consider her as a great singer. It is not that Annette has a bad voice, but let's be honest...Annette's voice is neither as strong and powerfull as Tarja's,nor matches perfectly the band's style.I believe that Tuomas' incredible music, demands a dynamic and unique voice as Tarja's.It's the symphonic style of their music that goes better with a soprano...The band's new songs,though,are amazing!Although Tarja has left a huge gap,which can not be replaced,their music remains as great as it has always been.I will continue listening to Nightwish,but sadly enough, I will not enjoy it as much as before.And no way can I stand listening to Annette singing the old Nightwish's songs...To sum up,I find Tarja much better than Annette.I believe,however,that if Annette was not to be compared to Tarja's excellent voice,things would definitely be easier for her...And of course it is not only the singer that counts,but the music and the lyrics as well. Annette | Reviewer: Ser | 11/11/07 Annette Olson I find, personally, is as good as Tarja was. They both have unique characteristics that separate the two. Comparing both of them is like saying, "a peach is in reality a banana." Annette I find is more lively, while Tarja had that amazing opera voice. While Tarja will be missed, Annette certainly holds the right to be a part of Nightwish! Hope for Nightwish | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/31/07 I have finally gotten my hands on a copy of Dark Passion Play - and I've got to say that hearing "Amaranth" and "7 Days to the Wolves" gives me a lot of hope for Anette as the singer of Nightwish. It is those two songs that I believe are best in the album - despite what others say. And "Amaranth" is stuck in my head - very horribly. I think Anette will do well with Nightwish, though Tarja shall be missed horribly. Anette vs. Tarja | Reviewer: Thomas | 10/12/07 Anette is waaay better singer than Tarja, she just sings different style! Anette CAN sing like Tarja, but the other way around - no! Anette has a much broader voice range, while Tarja can only sing opera style (excellent though). That makes Anette a better singer... You just have to get used to her.
