Tarja said she was planning on doing a solo career when she joined NW, and she also CANCELED THE US TOUR because the venues didn't charge enough. Not money hungry, huh? Tarja victimizes herself: I personally am a singer and around secondhand smoke and have been for my whole life, and it has done nothing to my voice. Perhaps some of her actions were excusable, but certainly not all. Go read the letters if you want to know the extent of her melodrama. Just go watch Anette live: she is interacting with the guys, the fans, etc, and even moves back so Emppu and Marco can take center stage. She is obviously a very down-to-earth person, and Tarja obviously was very self-centered. Watch her in End of an Era: she is ALWAYS wanting fans to look at HER and not at anyone else, regardless of whether or not she is singing. Even during guitar solos, keyboard solos, etc, she is keeping the crowd's eyes on herself. Don't get me wrong, Tarja is an amazing singer: but her attitude didn't mesh with touring and the guys, so they had no choice but to get rid of her. And when rewatching EOAE, just look and see just how DEPRESSED the guys look: they don't like what they have to do! But look also at the contrast between how they were onstage with Tarja and how they are onstage with Anette. And if you can't stand Anette's voice so much, then watch a video with the volume off. STOP COMPARING, PLEASE. | Reviewer: Allie | 5/12/09 Bye Bye Beautiful is absolutely about Tarja... "Did you ever read what I wrote you?" I think Anette's voice sounds very beautiful in it as well. We need to remember one big thing: Anette was chosen partly because her voice was so much different than Tarja's. NW wanted to preserve Tarja's integrity as a singer, and not look like they were upstaging her by getting another opera singer. Anette is VERY different from Tarja: they are EXTREMELY hard to compare, and it's silly to keep comparing them. DON'T say that you can't like both--I personally love both Tarja AND Anette, and I don't try and compare them. If you watch 'End of an Era,' Tarja is controlling the stage and barely interacting with the other members. I saw NW last week, and Anette not only interacts a lot with the others: she steps back and points/gestures at them to get the crowd to look at the others instead of her. Still on the topic of EOAE, if you watch everyone (excluding Tarja), you can see they are definitely not happy about their decision to kick her out--especially Tuomas, who often looks like he's going to cry. Tarja was very self-centered, and she didn't care enough about the music--yes, she was an amazing singer, but it's not just the voice that makes the singer: it's also the attitude, and her attitude was not the same as everyone else's. If you look on their website, you can find the letter to her. They say exactly what I have--that she was bigheaded and they couldn't continue dealing with her. In addition to matching costumes and microphones, she and Marcelo, her husband, had to be on a separate plane to the rest of the band. I mean, really--a SEPARATE PLANE. Did she not want to be seen with the guys? Who knows. And then, in her reply, she victimises herself, trying to turn everything against the guys--only to basically say that she had never really considered Nightwish a long-term thing, merely something to do before getting her solo career going. She was very melodramatic, telling everything like a tragic fiction novel: "At that moment I didn’t know that I was going to cry again soon." Please. So don't go around saying how she wasn't bigheaded before you know what happened. Feel free to email me if you want her full reply or the letter to her--or to argue this point. And Aaron Foster, the music is now better, I agree, but just because the vocal skills of Anette aren't so good, so they had to make something better. Dark Passion Play is such a powerful album. The addition of a more symphonic sound is possible...something that wouldn't have worked as well with Tarja as her vocals would have washed too much with the background. Basically, I just like the simple clarity of Anette blending with the new music better than the old techniques. It's sad to some point, but now we also get Tarja's music as well. Like I implied, I like what I like, and concerning this type of music, I do prefer Tarja's operatic style to Anette's... pop/country/whatever style. That rant was actually about a post a few pages ago where some fool basically said that people shouldn't compare the two because--dundunDUN--they have two different singing styles. ._. So then I wondered if they were silly enough to say the same thing about other "different styles" of experience or if they merely *actually* meant "I like Anette, and so should you." I've seen this argument ("You mustn't think one's better than the other! They're just *different*!") in other places, concerning this and other things, so I just wanted to say my piece. Two sides to the story | Reviewer: Ce-ce | 3/30/09 I lost most of my respect for Nightwish with the dirty way they went about kicking Tarja. They insinuate that she was the money hungry one, yet she isn't the one that pulled the public drama which was profitable to Nightwish - not Tarja who has more class in her pinky then the rest of the Nightwish combined. Her husband explained quite a bit, and I personally found him and Tarja more credible. She wasn't a diva, she was trying to take care of her voice. She couldn't hang with the party boys, drink, be around excessive smoke and go without sleep - it would damage her voice...her instrument, which they had no respect for (even though they had plenty of respect for their own replacable instruments and didn't spare any expenses having things set up for themselves). They failed to protect her when fans would get carried away and become inappropriate with her. Tuomas was told several times that the bands manager was not taking care of her needs - simple things like an area to change her clothes so she wouldn't have to do it with the band members present, or kick them out...some of the conditions they were in were deplorable. The managers couldn't even manage to arrange having water for her during their concerts. They failed to do anything to improve the situation for years, so she decided to part after the following album - giving them over 2 years notice. It would appear that something similar happened with Annette who also ended up hiring a personal manager and became so "sick" they had to cancel the tour short. They can't value their fans too well, if they can't manage to tolerate enough room for a singer to take care of her voice...Tarja isn't a diva just because she did her best to take care of herself in spite of them.
