The Reviews about Amaranth (page 2/ 20)
------ performed by Nightwish

Oh my god. | Reviewer: Curtis | 3/7/09

Okay this is coming from a person who prefers Tarja,
I know a lot of us older nightwish fans still after all this time have problems with Anette and we hate the way Tarja was fired. But we have to face that nothing you can say will bring the old nightwish back. I really think a lot of us have not given Anette a fair chance, she is amazing. The band has moved on and Tarja has her solo work now, check her out and leave Anette alone. The only thing i HATE about nightwish now is they still play the older songs, it is like spitting in the older fan's faces. We don't want to see a nightwish cover and no matter what if its not Tarja singing it is a cover to us, they have so many new and good songs they should drop the older ones.

Brilliant | Reviewer: Ebrethiel | 2/10/09

Tarja was AMAZING. I loved watching Nightwish's live performances when she was the singer. Annett, the new singer, is really good, but sounds too normal, as some people have stated before. She sounds so ordinary like any other singer. Tarja sang opera, and the mix between heavy metal and Opera was absolutely stunning.
Although, no matter who the singer is, I will always love Nightwish.
The lyrics for Amaranth are amazing. I like the many stories that can arise through the different interpretations of people's minds.

My take on the Tarja/Anette debate. | Reviewer: Anthony Lynch | 12/21/08

This hopefully is the last time I will see the Tarja/Anette debate on ANY page about Nightwish (don't worry I don't SERIOUSLY expect that that is going to happen.

During the Tarja era we had a unique style of music, symphonic metal. The operatic style of Tarja's voice gave them a special niche in the music market.

However after Tarja was fired they picked up a singer, Anette with a fairly normal female voice. Although undoubtedly a talented singer, they lost that niche and moved towards Power Metal. This move wasn't bad at all, it just meant that their style was different.

The band I believe no longer satisfies it's older fans, but now is bringing in newer ones. Tarja and Anette are good in very different ways.

Style changes have occurred in numerous bands, the most controversial being Metallica. Some called that degeneration, while others applauded it.

Anette and Tarja are both extremely capable singers, but while I was once an avid fan, I only now listen to the new songs now and again. Change happens, such is life.

Yes and yes... | Reviewer: Elan Tedronai | 11/13/08

A tragically-ending Vampire Personals e-romance brought me to discover Nightwish. For the longest time all I listened to by them was Nemo, Walking in the Air, Nymphomaniac Fantasia, and The Phantom of the Opera...though I had much more (music junkie here).

So the other day I was waxing nostalgic over Alyssa, and decided to listen to everything else by Nightwish (her fave with Blutengel and Evanescence)...oh...my...fucking...gawd.

But anyways, I shall offer up an analogy for the Tarja vs. Anette debate, thereby leaving my mark.

In my opinion:

Tarja Turunen : Anette Olzon :: Amy Lee : Sharon Den Adel

Nightwish live is LIVE!!! | Reviewer: Betsy | 9/19/08

For all of you who like to discuss the differences between Anette & Tarja, I'd love for us to consider their live performance. I just saw Dark Passion Play live and their performances the songs were amazing - most obviously the absolute best concert that either my husband or I have ever experienced!

or me one of the main reasons it was spectacular was how alive Anette really was - they opened with "Bye Bye Beautiful" and I imagine THAT was empowering to Anette personally. She rocks the crowd, is a lovely ornament to the stage and clearly a great support to the rest of the band in their performing. She's shown an amazing ability and courage to come to the band in such a dramatic way, which would include such drama and controversy about whether or not she could fit the bill.

Obviously she has filled it perfectly and the cohesiveness of the band is so powerful in concert! The amazing connection between the band members is the number one reason this concert tops the list for our lifetime of concerts experienced.

However, it's not just about Anette... Emppu is wildly entertaining!!!

In his bio on their official site http://www.nightwish.com/en/band/members he says his strangest experience is [a] "gig without any mistakes.. haven´t had yet.." - so he must mean that it's amazing he's never made a mistake on tour because it sure seems like his performance is perfected! But he toys with his instrument as if it's a character he's talking to and it DID appear once that he flirted with making fun of it as he would a woman being courted; perhaps he DID make a mistake but is so unified with the movement of the song and the band that it is entirely unnoticeable as a mistake. So Emppu, if you've made a mistake in every gig but played it off with such entertaining joy - then your fans may prefer that you never have a gig without a mistake! (And thanks for posing the photo - from the long haired brunette in the black corset in the balcony 10 feet from the stage edge, stage left, in Portland on Sept. 10th.)

They lyrics are astonishingly beautiful, but would be nothing without the music that guides the lyrics along their path! We LOVE the band…with Anette and EVERY member that works with such passion. :}

*just introduced to this band and is loving them | Reviewer: Emma | 9/13/08

i like how this song starts out (cause i know alot of bands that dont do this)i like how it starts out slow and how it spreads itself out

i personally love this song and i have listened to both of thee singers and i truely prefure annets voice. for the fact that especially in this song it is just wonderful and it has so much power that you cant help but listen and enjoy this song. infact i'm going to be doing poi to this song for my schools "night under the stars" for this same reason. and this is by far my favoret song

Amazing | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/8/08

This song is amazing. By the way, Tarja didn't quit. She was fired because the money and fame got to her head, making her act like a royal bitch. Her asshole husband didn't help either. Master Passion Greed, Nightwish's "angriest" song? Written about Tarja's husband.

My Opinion | Reviewer: Christa! | 8/10/08

I personally like Tarja better. Her operatic voice fits with the music. I never knew why she quit though. Although I do like Anette.
But when I listen to Nighwish with Tarja's voice, it feels like I am listening to Nightwish (well duh!). But when I listen to them with Anette, it feels like it's a completely different band. Not bad though, just different. I can't think of them as Nightwish when she sings.

Voices | Reviewer: ditch13 | 8/7/08

Opera voice w/ rock/metal music is always an explosive combination to me, it's what make it dark & gothic with elegance. I love Tarja voice, she has talent of a real singer (so is Amy Lee). But after reading some of the comments, it is true that her voice is very stoic and "grand", yet it lacks of the emotion, empathy, and the softness it sometimes needs for the music/song itself. And I do think even metal need a touch of the tenderness in certain situation.

Anette has a more common voice to me, like a lot of pop singers, but she can carry out the necessary emotion of the song. They both are totally different so perhaps we shouldn't really compare. If we appreciate the song itself, it should be the music and the lyric that we focus on. If we just look for performance, then it'll be a difference case. n_n

Unfading . . . . | Reviewer: Mina | 7/29/08

The lyrics blow me away. To me, it's about something/someone you find beauty in, a beauty others (even the ones that love you) reject and don't understand. But no matter what, you will always remember it/him/her, and those memories will never fade away. Simply put, Tuomas is a genius. I'd marry him in a heartbeat.

This "Tarja vs. Anette" issue may never rest in peace. Tarja's voice is undeniably formidable and has certainly left a great impression on Nightwish's work and fans. It solely depends on you alone whether or not you're comfortable with the transition to Anette. In my opinion, Tarja's voice possesses impeccable beauty and power. Unfortunately, it's stoic, shallow, and impossible to draw emotion from.

When I listened to some of Nightwish's earlier work from albums such as Oceanborn and Once, I thought the music was fascinating, and the lyrics were brilliant. I thought Tuomas was my hero, and I still do. But when I listened to Tarja, she drew me further away from the music. Anette's voice has more light within. It may not have that sheer quality that Tarja seemed to have, so it does seem harder to appreciate. But her voice has more grace and emotion than I believe Tarja will ever have.

I hope everyone realizes that no matter what, Tarja always has a place in Nightwish and that'll never go away. I also think that the vocalist of any band should never keep you from recgonizing the talent of the band or listening to them. The vocals are simply a part of it all. Maybe the most memorable part to many, but inevitably, still a part.
