The Reviews about Rock Star (page 1/ 17)
------ performed by Nickelback

It's called Satyre! | Reviewer: Da0th3rguy@hotmail.com | 9/29/09

This song is purely satirical which means that it uses ironic, over-exagerated imagery to poke fun at the stereotypical rock stars and show the ugly side of Hollywood. Now it wouldn't be called a satire if there wasn't some truth in it. We all know too well the early rock stars and their drug abuse, for most like the Beattles, the drug wrote the songs for them. And how many rock stars, and Celebrities in general hasn't landed themselves in sex scandals. "I'll even change my name and cut my hair" - now who could forget Britney shaving her head - and trust me, she wasn't the first.

Yes it's Ironic, stereotyping but there are some truth in it. It's called Satire ppl!

with that all said, LOVE Nickelback, LOVE this song, one of their best. It's not meaningful and touching as "If Everyone Cares" but it sure is Rockin' FUN! 2 thumbs waaay up from me

Don't take the song too seriously | Reviewer: Martin Berry | 8/14/09

Absolutely right, Natalie. Of course it's intended as a jokey, ironic take on the whole "fortune & fame" thing.

I'm a part-time musician (play guitar & sing in a mate's band) & we somtimes perform this song precisely because of its self-deprecating sentiment - we're nowhere near as good as we'd like to think we are and, for that reason, are quite capable of taking the p*** out of ouselves.

Fot anoter brilliantly written song with similar sentiments have a listen to Joe Walsh's (ex-Eagles) "Life's Been Good". I think that the music biz is too full of people who take themselves too seriously & it makes a really refrshing change when someone who is genuinely talented is prepared to have a self-mocking knock at all the rock star lifestyle accoutrements (as they have done in Nickelback's & Joe Walsh's cases).

I agree with Natalie & others who've posted here & reckon the people who've said it encourages the "sex 'n' drugs 'n' rock 'n' roll" lifestyle either haven't listened to the lyrics properly or lack a sense of irony.

Martin

Censored version | Reviewer: gr8white | 3/12/09

I came here to find out what the lyrics really are as they bleep out part of it on the local radio station. I was surprised to find out in addition to "ass" and "assholes" (which I had guessed) they had censored the word "drugs"!

This song is not meant to be taken seriously. It's actually making fun of what the words "Rock star" mean in today's society. Everything that Nickelback said in the song is true about Hollywood and rock star scene. I actually think they are being critical of that lifestyle, not encouraging it.

I gained respect for Nickelback when I heard "If Everyone Cared". They make good music and seem to be conscious about things going on in the world. They are not your typical dumb, superficial musicians.

ENJOY | Reviewer: OLDROCKER | 1/23/09

I love this song. It has good bass and drum power. For God's sake, have fun with it. It's powerful, and fun, and I wished I had recorded it. The hidden question in the song is this "Did you walk to school or pack a lunch?" Like "Money for Nothing" just a song, and a good one. Lighten up.

love them | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/1/09

i am 43 years, female and i love Nickleback. I think they are very talented musicians, dont care about what they do or say as long as they keep pumping out good music, if their lyrics upset you then you have no life, turn the radio off and get one.

I love this song coz its what were all thinking and its what we all want really so it just like tells the truth about everytjing and I love the drug dealer on speed dial bit coz its something that you wouldnt have on your mobile but they stick it in the song just to make it sound good.

Rock Star is ironic thru and thru | Reviewer: Rob Williams | 2/25/08

Loved Silver Side Up, and stumbled across this the other day - I'm 42 so don't watch MTV or listen to radio 1 in the UK. The lyrics are ironic ffs!! The whole thing is a massive piss-take on the modern music industry with its cliques and hangers on.

Nickeleback have served their rock apprenticeship and are now putting out very droll and sassy music. Pink Floyd did musc scene droll 30 years ago with Welcome to the Machine, and this is easily as good as that song was way back then.

Great song | Reviewer: Temari17 | 2/20/08

This song is totally sarcastic and very funny, I think that nickelback wanted to say the things they hate the most. ^_^
I love this song like I love all songs of nickelback.
I want a new album from this fantastic rockstar!!!
