The Reviews about Take A Bow (page 6/ 9)
------ performed by Muse

Can everyone just stop talking about which 'world leader' it might be?! I think it's based off strong views about leaders in general! But the texture and quality of the actual music here is a.s.t.o.u.n.d.i.n.g.

Muse, I aplaud you! You've done it again!

Wikipedia says: | Reviewer: Berto | 7/16/07

"The opening track on the album Take a Bow, uses clever lyrics which refer to his view on the world leaders, although when asked in an interview, Matt stated that the song was aimed at all world leaders, and not one specific person." it's not about one person!

Corruption? lying to the country? gutting the constitution and civil liberties in the name of freedom? destroying the earth? holding in contempt international law? bringing destruction everywhere? Who else can it be? Even most American historians think Bush is amongst the worst, if not the worst president ever.

This song is on par with Black Sabbath's War Pigs in righteous denunciation of warmongers.

A previous commentator clearly doesn't get what most of the world, and a majority of Americans now clearly see -- an out of control administration that has not only wrecked the world, but also his own country. To get all in a lather about terrorism, when far more destruction has been visited upon innocent people by American bombs who are there to maintain Empire, just as the current administration has dangerously endangered the future with its sabotage of international environmental treaties, is exactly the spell that Muse is taking about that has been cast over the country. But people are waking up.

BURN IN HELL | Reviewer: Alex | 6/30/07

i think the lyrics are good within the context of the song.
it amounts to little more than Matt's rant, but what a magical rant it is, no?
you can feel his righteous fury, theres no time for subtlelty here he wants to stick this rotten tail on all the asses

Fuck yeah

Middle East Leaders | Reviewer: AnGeL | 6/27/07

I think this song describes all the Arab countries' leaders perfectly. & it could also be about Bush. so "Take A Bow" is open to interpretation, which is the mark of a great song, right?

What about the music itself.. | Reviewer: CrazyCello | 6/21/07

As a "brit" I find it sheer arrogance that some of the reviewers here have simply assumed that the lyrics apply to their illustrious president. Matt Bellamy as a songwriter and Muse as a band are masters of subtlety and intellect both in their treatment of musical material and of lyrics. To assume that something as explicit as a direct reference only to one political leader and one situation is all that was intended by the lyrics is ignorant and unjust. Saying this, if, as a supporter of Bush, you hear the lyrics and assume they apply to him, what does that say about his leadership and your own loyalty? Obviously in your mind you associate things he has done as synonymous with those in the lyrics, and understand at some level that they can be interpreted in that light. Perhaps one of the intentions of this song was not a direct attact of Bush, but actually what has happened here.. to activate those seeds of doubt and make you think and question rather than just blindly accept. Generally when people attact a perceived criticism, it is because of insecurity. If you were sure of the integrity of Bush, you wouldn't feel the need to attack criticisms of him.

Why does every discussion on an American site end up having to be about politics? Why doesn't somebody mention the beautiful build up of texture throughout the song, the endless modulations, Bellamy's famed arpeggios, here passed between two different synth tones?

Shut Up | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/21/07

I can't believe how precious people are about george Bush, he deserves to burn in hell, if you are that ignorant to think this song is about him and disagree then you deserve to burn as well.
Matt bellamy is one of the most talented musicians ever and I'm sure he really gives a shite about what people think of his song lyric choices with a 90,000 sell out gig two night running at Wembley Stadium.
Get a life
