Oh... Anonymous, do you know what's a metaphor is?
The ship is the metaphor for the different causes of the separation. (life factors as work, travels etc)
The starlight is all the illusions that life promises to us.
Black holes are all the unknown things in existence.
Of, course you can understand this song at first degree, but I really don't think Muse just sing about space travellers ^^
Long distance space travel | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/7/08
I think this song is "simply" about long distance space travel and the moral implications when a space ship is going to travel outside of our solar system.
Even with the theoretically fastest space ships that would travel at about 1/10th of the speed of light it would take more then one generation to travel back and forth to our nearest star.
I think this song deals with the dilemma of being caught far from home and not being able to see one's loved one's ever again.
"Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations"
The scientist's are of course hoping to find out new things about our universe with this space trip.
"Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold you in my arms"
Lost love, unhappy love, maybe the reason that the narrator agreed to join in the crew?
"My life
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to ignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive"
Let's do 'A Hero'.
This Song Is Pure Genius.. | Reviewer: Muse Is LOVE | 10/12/08
I am absolutely in love with this song. There isn't a Muse song out there that I don't love, but this is by far Muse's best work of art. It's not so much the beat or anything that reaches out,it's the lyrics. The true meaning of this song is beautiful, and it relates in every way to what is happening in my life right now.I think that's mostly why I like it,but either way..Thanks Muse, for writing such inspirational music.<333
Wow | Reviewer: Cameron | 10/5/08
This was the first ever Muse song i heard. I remember I was on the airplane going to London and it was like that airplane radio thing where they constantly play the same songs over and over, but everytime this came on i'd memorize part of it and be singing along. The lyrics are amazing. Great Job Muse
Amazing song! | Reviewer: muse fan | 8/26/08
I just thought that i should say something about this amazing band on this amazing song! Well, first of all I love Muse (thank you Stephenie Meyer and Twilight for introducing me to possibly the best band ever!)! This song includes what may be my favorite lyric of all time "All the souls that would die just to feel alive." Actually, to tell you the truth, I think at least half of my favorite lines from songs are by Muse! Thank you for this awesome song, and other amazing ones!
what its worth! | Reviewer: b | 5/7/08
Kept hearing this on the radio and everytime I hear it it grabs my attention as theres something about it that reminds me of a track of Ultravox's Rage in Eden album released back in 80's. Despite the negative comments from some disappointed Muse fans, I think its a really great song and sooo refreshing to hear something that stands out from all the other commercial wishy washy, non-descript, bland, dull stuff around at the moment where each song 'mingles' into the next!
this song makes me miss payam more!!! | Reviewer: diana | 4/15/08

I'm a die hard heavy metal fan, but something about this song, it just touches me, pop is usually never one of my favorites, but this song is one of my top 5 favorites, which in my eyes is insane, It is a beautiful song, even though it isn't the same as other muse songs, and it is as some have said "fake" it still deserves a very honorable mention
awesome | Reviewer: Natalie | 3/17/08
starlight is an amazing song! seriously, trashing it 'cause its pop is horrid considering if you're going to classify muse as anything, it would be a form of europop. bellamy is a creative genius, and i find it interesting to see glimpses into the softer side of his creative process through songs like unintended, starlight, and endlessly.
What the HECK?! | Reviewer: V. | 2/27/08
People, what is wrong with this song? I haven't listened to much prior muse sogs beforehand, but I thought this song was very beautiful and simple, reaching me and addicting me.
I'm a pop fan, so maybe that explains it, but regardless, this song was perfectly amazing and trashing it because it's pop is stupid. Pop rocks and how catchy it is! And I think there is plenty of soul in this song.
Die-hard Starlight haters, go eat your crappy rock trash and leave us pop fans alone! (I am not a hater of rock, by the way_
Well every band has to have a popular song... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/24/08
This is not one of my favourites, it's the song which Muse have produced to get the attention of the pop world. It's not very good, it's true the riff unlike some of Bellamy's others isn't quite as original as it should be. I really like the style, but there are better somgs by Muse.

Talent | Reviewer: M. | 1/11/08
What the fuck people? Maybe they felt the need to move ezplore other genres or maybe they wanted to become more famous and therefore they had to make a pop-song wich would be a hit on mtv and other mainstream radio stations around the world. This could be the reason why this song was made. None of their other songs, especially not from their ealier works, sound like this. I'm a fan of Muse, but this does not come from the heart. By this song Muse only prove that they can be mainstream if they want to. Talent... but you don't feel the bitterness as you did with their other albums. Good song, but no nerve... I'd bet that people who love this song would not relate to their ealier works..

folks...
That piano riff was inspired by the Pixies song "Motorway to Roswell". Go back and take a listen to one of the most influential bands in alternative rock.
