Irony? | Reviewer: LOLERSKATES | 11/29/09

Am I the only one who noticed: "And we'll PRAY that THERE'S NO GOD"

Ironic much? Matt Bellamy is most likely an atheist, but he's not siding with either group, he's portraying the ignorance and irony of a 'sinful' society that 'prays' that there isn't a God to punish them. He's showing how hypocritical they are, I mean, really, PRAYING that THERE'S NO GOD. Praying to whom?

Its about letting everything fall apart while you make excuses for yourself. Like people that say live your life, but they can only thing of quirky acts that will get them noticed. There is a built up and silent anger of ackknowledgement and futility.

It's neither atheistic nor religious in basis, although the title would hint that it leans more toward a religious meaning (fury, as such from some sort of diety figure). However as usual with Muse there is a lot of thought behind the lyrics. The one line that is of importance seems to be "and we'll pray that there's no god to punish us". Exactly who or what are they praying to? That line is supposed to be somewhat oxymoronical. The song itself is about someone with an immense amount of regret or someone who has done something terribly wrong. They want to forget what they have done ("breathe in deep and cleanse away our sins", wouldnt it be so easy if you could just take a deep breath and everything you've done wrong be forgotten). And whatever it is they have done wrong they cannot forget, and not being able to forget is the punishment, hence the next line.

i think that this song isn't so atheistic because the lyrics say: "And we'll pray that there's no God To punish us and make a fuss" - it seems that he doesn't know whether there is God,however he doesn't exclude it. if he said "And we'll pray BUT there is no God" it would be atheistic. it's my opinion :)
great song

Who Cares? | Reviewer: Mikol | 8/4/09

regardless of whether the song is implying any sort of religious or lack there of for that matter, its an amazing song, like most of the rest of their songs. i myself am an atheist. and i don't listen to christian music. so... if you're religious and it does bother you. burn your cd's, delete your mp3's or whatever, you Tipper Gore, over zealous weirdos. art is beautiful, no matter what it implies.

I looked at the lyrics for a while and no I don't think they are athiestic,(even if he is an athiest which I don't think so regardless of wiki) but, if you think about it people may think this anyway when they do thing that aren't supposed to be done if you look at it religiously and in a way they do pray that when their time comes they will either get a good review or that there's nobody there to review them at all

:) | Reviewer: Leah | 5/21/09

I love this song. So powerful. I think it could be atheistic or not atheistic. Too be honest it reminds me of take a bow and how people will pay for their sins. I mean the only thing that makes it sound atheistic is the chorus. And in the other verses its talking about(in my opinon) how this person is inventing up excuses to excuse the sins or horrible things he/she's done. So i guess its kind of saying that your doing all these horrible things but it doesnt matter we'll just pray that theres no god. which is interesting because you dont pray unless you have a god. Just something i noticed in this.....

it is | Reviewer: Avi | 5/13/09

un it actually is very athiestic. and what the hell is wrong with that? matt bellamy is an athiest, so dont try suedo science your way out of this one, most of muse lyrics sre athiestic! and thats partly why i love it.dont believe me ? then go to musewiki and check out the description
for yourself.

awesome | Reviewer: Samar | 1/13/09

This song is amazing. But it doesnt have athiestic lyrics, but rather quite the opposite. It's saying one day we will be so scared with all the wrong we do that we will wish there is no god; not that there isnt one. I think its pretty much saying we will become cowards and fear meeting our maker. Listen to "Take a Bow" also very powerful, and also talking about how one day we will all pay for our sins (mainly about politicians, and leaders, and kings)
