Because it is Sin | Reviewer: Bree | 8/10/07

I think this song is pointing the blame to the wrong person. He's saying why would Jesus make him that way. Well, God didn't make him that way. It is the path he chose. He should be asking for forgiveness not "forgiving Jesus." This is God's Word. Does God love Gay People??? ABSOLUTLY. But he hates homosexuality. For me, for someone to say " I was born Gay, I can't help the way I feel" is like a married woman saying "I can't help cheating on my husband. Its just the way I feel" If you ask me,we do to much "feeling." We need to THINK.

Not Necessarily About Being Gay | Reviewer: David | 7/10/07

I also just wanted to add that this song does not necessarily have to mean just the topic of being gay. A straight person could have these very same thoughts. It is a very human song. Poetry doesn't have to be absolute. It simply is expression. It is if someone insists that poetry is true that it becomes bad poetry.

It could have truth to it, it could make a statement but again..it's just a song!

Even if you HATED Morrissey, and he was virulently atheistic, the song touched me and I believe quite strongly in Jesus.

Some things are better felt than scrutinized. Technically, it could mean different things to different people. The poet does not necessarily own his art!

I myself think it evokes a beautiful sadness.
It shouldn't evoke anger.

Poetic License | Reviewer: David | 7/10/07

I am a gay Christian. I appreciate what the song is saying by understanding the pain inflicted by
religious malpractice and prejudice. Sensitive, God loving gay people are brought up to love God and Jesus Christ, and then it is (seemingly) ripped from you by parents, church, and people that don't really seem to care about Jesus that much anyways, all by virtue of their heterosexuality and ignorance. It is more the church and conservative synogogues that condemn gays that have inflicted the pain, alienation and harm for their love of dogma over God's love.
It is worth noting, however, that Jesus certainly had no easy time trying to teach primitive people even the most basic concepts of human kindness.
I afford it poetic license, but Christ was crucified for his teachings and left alone. We all have moments of doubt and pain. If you say you haven't you probably aren't being honest.

I would assume that Morrissey is implicitly referring to an emotional experience of not understanding the paradox gay people are put in, and not truly suggesting it was Jesus' fault. He's pointing out an alleged flaw that we cognitively and spiritually can examine and realize: "Wait..it can't be Jesus' fault if God gave him the ability to love, therefore the error lies elsewhere...churches, atheists, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, whoever inflicts sorrow on people for being different.
Put in perspective, Christ foretold of persecution. He didn't promise us Ibiza and Fire Island, and non-gays should be able to get something from the song without spazzing out over a song, as if somehow Christ could be lessoned by a song. It's just a song!
Maybe the narrator in the song should have looked deeper instead of giving up! I am going to seminary, and when I gather in any of the churches that do practice inclusivity in Christs name with others, I know that there Christ is in the midst of us.

very generous | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/25/07

very generous of this particular victim to forgive his persecutor

What's all this about Catholicism? | Reviewer: Hamish | 6/9/07

Morrissey is gay. According to Christian scripture, he's not allowed to act upon his feelings in that respect. So he's pointing out that it's pretty low of Jesus to have created him that way in the first place.

Don't try to blame Catholicism for this. See all that dogma you non-Catholics reject? We atheists just go one step further. Where you see corruption in the Church, we see it in the Bible.

Catholics Huh? | Reviewer: Michael Morrell | 6/1/07

This is a perfect example of how the catholic mission is to make it's members 10 times more fit for hell than when they started. The Pope IS of course the anti-christ as we know the bible teaches, sitting on the city of seven hills. He (they) will of course be judged and obliterated when the Messiah comes.

Karol, you actually don't have a leg to stand on legally. If you want to cry about a perceived slight towards your infantile religious fantasy, though, I'm sure that a lawyer would love to charge you to listen.

You sound like a very weak person. You shouldn't expect everybody else to crumple as easily as you do.

I like that bit about erasing the song off the internet, though. That was pretty fabulous, you fucking troll.

GET A GRIP AMERICANS! | Reviewer: USA = Duuuuuuh | 4/9/07

Why listen to the great song if you dont like it. you are just angering yourself by coming onto a very successfull man who just tells the truth about the CRAP you lot believe in. You dont believe in someone you RESPECT them. GOD IS Unknown

Fantastic Song / Fantastic Lyrics | Reviewer: paul | 3/7/07

This is a fantastic work by Morrissey and his band. Absolutely fantastic. Very interesting song, very interesting lyrics, good job Morrissey. Morrissey's imagination and ability never ceases to amaze me.
