The Reviews about I Have Forgiven Jesus (page 1/ 4)
------ performed by Morrissey
I agree. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/29/09
This song is not about him being gay. Its about the loss of love and absence of "the one". he is very open with his sexuality. There are no clues in lyrics to his sexual preferences. if he came out tomorrow nobody would really be surprised but, He has stated himself " i have tried bot and would rather have a cup of Coffee.
Meaning... | Reviewer: Lee | 8/28/09
I've often listened and read and contemplated Morrissey's lyrics. At one point or another, I have shared almost all the views expressed here for this song. I'd like to offer a slightly different view for consideration. I think that people too often confuse (or at least fail to differentiate) an artist's inspiration with/from the true meaning of the work. This is as true of this particular Morrissey song as it is of DaVinci's Mona Lisa.
His sexuality is really irrelevant. His religion is equally irrelevant. Yes, it is a very directed song... (when he plays this song live, he often prefaces it with "I know it isn't mutual... but I have fogiven Jesus"). But ultimately the song is about the internal struggles that we place on ourselves based on what society (religious or otherwise) has instilled within our psyche. The meaning is whatever the listener needs it to be... to help him/her interpret and feel less alone in whatever aspect of life that is causing internal strife. We all have something... no matter if we are straight, gay, Catholic, Buddhist, or whatever.
Music is an artform. As such, the true beauty lies in its ability to draw an emotional response from its audience as well as its openness to interpretation.
you are for sure retards | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/10/09
it's so hard for me to believe what kind of retards are there!!! why are you so sure that this song is about him being gay, i think all of you are very gay, fuck you very gay much, fucking gay retards! all the best, take care
retards | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/6/09
You're all retards. This is soo about him being gay and being abstinent as he was. God didn't make him gay, not sure what did, but he felt very strongly for a long time that to act on his homosexuality was wrong. He's reconciled it within himself and has "forgiven jesus" for the pain he endured because of his homosexuality. DUH!
Lyric Correction | Reviewer: David | 4/9/09
The lyric is not "paper round" which doesn't make any sense any ways but "paper route" as in delivering newspapers. He was a nice boy with a nice paper route. Does any one remember the Nintendo game Paper Boy?
Hi | Reviewer: SR | 2/13/09
Hi all. Please stay with me on this, I'm going to try to explain what I think the song is about in a roundabout way.
I think that being gay inside is not a choice...in that I mean that everyone has lustful feelings inside. Some feel it for either sex (male/female) or both. However, what we choose to do with those feelings is up to us. I believe that one can't help feel what he/she does, but that choosing to paticipate in acts of homosexuality is sinful. I also believe any lustful act is sinful without love or outside of marriage.
I think Morrisey has found this out too. I think he's committed to God, and is in desperation for the way he feels inside...that he feels he cannot be himself by acting on those homosexual feelings without being deserted by Jesus. So he is saying he has forgiven Jesus, because he believes that Jesus deserted him for being homosexual, and also because he feels God has cursed him with these feelings.
Let me tell you Morrisey, I can't condone those acts, but Jesus will never desert you. No one's perfect. I don't have any answers as to why people feel the way they do or as to why people are born transgendered or double-gendered or with no gender, but only that you are not alone, and you are NEVER without Jesus if you look for him.
Peace and love to all of you,
SR
Growing up Catholic | Reviewer: Rob | 10/27/08
This song encapsulates so well the horror that is being raised Catholic, or in any religion for that matter. I'm glad Morrissey has forgiven Jesus, I'll cling to my hatred of him and his robed minions that spent years convincing me I was evil, dirty and bad for a while yet.
Oh, and it's 'paper round'...Morrissey wouldn't pronounce 'route' that way.
not about sexuality | Reviewer: mike | 7/23/08
to love gives more hapiness than to be loved...
i don't think moz had troubles finding someone who loved him but someone to love to.
that's the feeling of emptyness he expresses in this song... i think
I Too Forgive Jesus | Reviewer: Zacha | 4/4/08
This song means an awful lot to me; many of Moz's songs do. It's not about homosexuality! Moz is asexual- that's why he suffers.
I suffer because nobody can ever love one like me. I am transgendered and I talk too much. Jesus loves me though. Because though I am not happy, I'm not unhappy about it, because the cruel gift Jesus gave me gives so much joy in its private pain. Long live Jesus, and long live Moz.
Ivan the terrible | Reviewer: Kevin | 1/14/08
Ivan, be quiet you cretin and don't dare ever sully the name of Morrissey fans again by claiming you belong to our clan. I am heterosexual, by the way, but to listen to your small minded ramblings on sexuality pains and offends me. If there is such thing as God (which there isn't), then surely he's perfect and wouldn't make enough of a cock-up as to create homosexuals inadvertently? You should have learned a long time ago that when you're as idiotic as yourself its best just to keep quiet... Go away and fantasise about choking on an adonis' member you repressed imbecile.
