This is my take on the meaning.. The girl singing is in a relationship, but she's begun to question it. She's beginning to feel that shes lost herself in the relationship. They're both so deeply in love that the singer doesn't just see herself anymore, she see's them as one. "I don't know who I am without you, all I know is that I should" refers to the way she feels thsi is not a healthy way to be. So attached to another person, so reliant. She's scared. She now understands the love isen't as easy as black and white. Yes they are both deeply in love but she realises that she needs to find herself. "But you arent leaving without a fight And i think i am just as torn inside" < She is trying to explain it too the person here. They don't understand why she would leave because they're happy! But the girl is saying "she is just as torn inside" as the partner, but for different reasons. She is lost and vulnerable by being so attached to someone. "And I wont be far from where you are if ever you should call You meant more to me then any one i've ever loved at all But you taught me how to trust myself And so i say to you, this is what i have to do." She's leaving but is assuring her partner that she will always love them. They were the ones that taught her to stand strong and "trust herself" so shes stepping into the world alone. It's something she has too do. And finally "Cause she will love you more then i could, She who dares to stand where i stood" This is basicly her declaring that one day someone new will be in the same position. They will be deeply in love with her ex but they won't run. They will choose to face that fact that their love makes them vulnerable and open to being hurt in a tremendous way if it were ever lost, but they will not run.
