its official .... she's not so straight. | Reviewer: dani | 11/18/07

Missy Higgins is on the cover of Cherrie magazine - which is a lesbian magazine - and has given and interview saying she's comfortable with the fact that she's 'not so straight' and that yes she's talking about sexuality in this song, but dont ask her to explain it - thats like asking someone to explain why they have brown hair.

"I'd like to say, if you're comfortable with who you are inside, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks,'' Higgins said.

So yeah! She's at least bisexual, so good on her for accepting it and that if anyone else doesn't, their not worth it.

Although, I've never really liked her songs, but I'm proud of her for being able to tell the world who she really is. You go girl.

Quote by annonymus 'in the fist verse missy says he and ie second in the 2nd it says she. this song I think is about change so she tryied a change to well other women
but she finds herself again in the end so she is not a lesbian'

i think by her mentioning a man in the first verse and a female in the 2nd verse it is showing that neither is right (she can not be placed as straight nor a lesbian, ie she can not be labelled). Its pretty much as shes saying shes bisexual and she loves both ways but if you make her pick she wont be able too (triangle into a circle)

what i think this song means | Reviewer: Richie | 4/26/07

Missy higgins is saying that everybody is perfect the way they are. When you are with someone, you change and comprimise your personality so that they like you but if your with someone you really like, you don't need to change because they'll like you back for who you are.

awesome | Reviewer: lele | 4/26/07

i've had to do an english assingment on either a poet or a lyrisit(howeva u spell it!) here's what i wrote:
The song Scar by Missy Higgins is very cleverly written. There are a lot of opinions about what this song means but mainly there are two popular opinions. One is about Missy Higgins being a lesbian; the other is about people making you something you’re not. I lean toward the later opinion.

The title “Scar” gives you an idea of what the song is going to be about. A visible scar or an emotional scar, a wound, pain or hurt.

The tone throughout this song is reflective and naïve. Reflective of people who have had an influence on her life, people who try to change her. Naïve because she’s being easily led and she, at first, believes everything she’s told without question.

“A triangle trying to squeeze through a circle,
He’d tried to cut me so I’d fit.”

The triangle is Missy being forced through the circle to be someone she’s not. When she doesn’t fit, they change her so she does.

As the chorus begins, Missy reflects on what has happened, how she was so close to the part where she couldn’t turn back and about the people who have tried to change her.

“So the next one came with a bag of treats,
She smelled like sugar and spoke like the sea.”

The sea is beautiful and enchanting to look at but it can be manipulating and powerful. So when the line says, “spoke like the sea” the friend could be trying to change her and Missy is unaware of it.

The rest of the verse is about the friend telling Missy to not listen to anyone but herself. So when the friend begins to change Missy, Missy is too naïve to stop her.

“Looked at my insides clicking her tongue,
And said “this will all have to come undone”

The last verse is Missy that she “realised just in time” what was going on. When she sings about “being the bad fruit” she talks about people always buying to ripe fruit and Missy relates that to life. That people tend to go with people who are plain and normal and end up being just like them.

cool song | Reviewer: ruthie | 2/11/07

it speaks of finding some one who we think is special and would probably have the "it" factor but ends up to be someone who wants to overhaul you...could u live with that? that only a vestige of yourself remains?
