AN instead of A | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/14/08
well i trully think the song should be corrected because by AN it refers to many other gods thus for the song to be perfect it should have been renamed to "A awesome GOD" not "AN awesome GOD".That is just degrading the mighty GOD.
Grammar? | Reviewer: Tom | 6/25/08
Well, the point is not to critisize, but to interpret wisely, I mean, why The author have put "AN" instead of "A" or "THE".
Firstly I'll cope with "A", because it's easier. Our Awesome God is in fact very common in literature and in common language. Also, He is very close to us, so we are somehow allowed to use our language (if it's possible) to describe Him, and, just to indicate it, author didn't put there an artficial construction "A Awesome", but more (if I can call it that way) adapted to human beings "an awesome".
"THE" is tougher to explain, but I'll try. As I said, using "God" is very common in language, let's mention a word "Goddamn", which is still making me thik - the Polish equivalent is "do diabła" ("[I wish it'd gone] to devil") or, as an "adjective", "cholerny" ("[having something to do with] cholera"), so I, as Pole, can't understand it. On the other hand, it is quite obvious that THE GOD (or just - God, The Only One) IS Awesome, if we call THE GOD the one mentioned in church or on theology studies. And in this song author say "I hope that we have not too quickly forgotten that /our God is an awesome God"). If a priest said it, it wouldn't make sense, if we conider THE GOD. But it does make sense, if we are talking about a God from common language, a God as undefined as this article. Now, it become quite obvious why our God (the God we, common people, are "using" in everyday life) is AN awesome God.
That's ll, sorry for my mistakes, English, as I said, isn't my mother tongue

He is an Awesome GOD | Reviewer: Child of God | 6/19/08
Why is there even discussion on the grammar and what that means? As Christians, we stand on common ground. That He is truly an Awesome GOD and since we know him as the One and Only true GOD why bring up such claims?
Back to the main focus though, I looooove this song!!! Infact the first time I heard it was a friend of mine just humming the chorus...imagine. And the words I do agree are powerful. I hope this song touches other as it has touched me.
Grammar and Omnipotence | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/25/08
Not only do I agree about the point that using 'an' is grammatically correct, but I'd also add that there are indeed many gods in the world. We, in our sinful nature, put many things before God and that makes them a god. No other god is equal to Him. In fact, the first Commandment says 'Thou shalt have no OTHER gods before ME'. That means we should put Him first. If we can acknowledge the fact that we do that then we can learn to submit. It's not that He's one of many, but that He's the only true God, the only one who can do all those things.
As for Omnipotence.. Yes, God can take away all pain and sorrow in the world but then He'd be changing the rules He set out when He created us. Some people find it hard to believe in what they don't see. They find it hard to look beyond what they are facing in the here and now. But we, humanity, aspire, we hope, we strive. That is because we were created in His image. It's our spirit crying out to be with Him. All the good in the world is of God, but when God gave mankind the world, what did we do? We handed it over to Satan. As Christians it's part of our job to take back the Earth so we understand that the evil in the world isn't because God isn't omnipotent, but because Adam, the most perfect man, wasn't God.
For anyone who's not a Christian maybe that idea isn't clear. Many people say "I can't believe a loving God would allow all this suffering" but the truth is that when you live outside of God's will for your life, you will suffer. When you walk IN God's perfect will for your life, you will suffer. How do you know darkness if you don't know the light? And how do you know the light if you haven't suffered through the darkness?
This life is only temporary. That doesn't make it trivial and that doesn't make it a test, it makes it important. Even on the human level we understand that what we do now will resonate throughout history but who decided that it had to be Earthly history?
In childrens eyes. | Reviewer: Penny Scott | 5/15/08
I would like to say that my husband and I work with a youth group "Desires of our Youth" and we sing this song every meeting we have. All the children has learned so much from this song. We even came up with motions to this song to get the children active. Anyone that reads this message my question to you is, What is the derires of our youth? Now days we need to get our childern's attention and let them know there are better desires than things of this world. May God continue to bless you through this song.
