The Reviews about The House That Jack Built (page 1/1)

Is it you or another demon that I meet? | Reviewer: psychot30 | 10/1/09
I believe that when they are talking about the house the Jack built its referring to his body, and his life experiences. Hence, the references of demons, and dead end streets. The song is alluding to heavier drug use that kind the needs to be shot up or snorted in. The kind that makes you hitchhiker in your own body. The kind makes your body quake, shake and offers an ectasy that kind that only found psychtropically. Chorus refers to the long-term effects of physical dependencey of coke, heroin or meth as it systemically distroys what should be healthy, vibrant and capable of surviving life's struggles. Has anyone seen what meth does to people after a couple years of use?

This song is filled with all the pain he experienced... And it doesn't get away... It stays and he cannot get out of that house... I feel so sorry for him... It seems that he goes deeper and deeper in it... It's not a pain that can be healed... It just comes and takes over you... And you don't even have the strenght to want to get out of the house... It's just that pain that stays there, deep inside, people may not see it, but it's there... There isn't any obvious reason for this pain, but there are small bits that make the whole... Can't explain... But I know what the feeling is and I feel so sorry for him because he knows it too... The whole song is filled with that pain...

Fantastic song, with great riffs, solos, and vocal work. I agree that the song is relating to the warped world of alcoholism (specifaclly J.D.ism) and the demons you meet there, and what it does to your mind and body.
But more specifically than that, I think its about before going on stage. Waiting to start the show, with all the anxiety and nerves building up. It gets too much, so you reach for the bottle that'll make it all go away. You can become someone else so you are capable of doing the show, as you believe you're not strong enough to do it by yourself.
Open door so I walk inside, signifies the open bottle. Swallow me so the pain subsides - the demons of the bottle tempting you to drown your sorrows. And I shake as I take it in - A shiver of mixed pleasure and defeat as you give in to the effects of the drink. Let the show begin - Now he's ready to go on stage.
Also, Don't want control, as it takes me down.
He doesn't want too much control over the crowd, as he's afraid of the reponsibility, and doesn't want to get comfortable with having that kind of control as he doesn't know what it would do to him, or what he would become. Hence, Is that you there, or just another demon that I meet? I've always imagined Het. staring into a mirror before he goes on stage, wondering whether it actually himself he's looking at, or something else that he's become (The Demon).
Well. thats my take on it, anyway. :)
Alcoholism. | Reviewer: Tyler | 7/28/08
I'm pretty sure this song is about alcoholism.
"The house jack built" - "house" can be interpreted as representing the body, the mind, the spirit, etc.
Jack being a fairly obvious reference to Jack Daniels.
Ugh, i really don't feel like picking this apart piece by piece.

I really like this song, the "The higher you are, the farther you fall..." part is so nice, and the whole song is really emotional. But still I don't get it, why is it entitled "the house that jack built"?
