To be or not to be. | Reviewer: soulsearcher | 9/20/12

The more we begin to understand the nature of the universe, the more we see that all space and time exist simultaneously. This means there is no free will, because the "future" already exists. Its no different than the "past", it can not be changed. This means we are all playing a role that is physically inescapable. What we've done, are doing, and will do, already all exist. Maybe its just our consciousness that exists outside the physical universe and that is why we percieve time in one direction. If this is true then God did not give us free will, as our "choices" are predetermined by the physical universe. Also, it could be said that this reality is God's true plan. Not for us to choose to worship him or not, but to realize we have no choice either way- only then can we begin to understand God, and prepare ourselves to exists beyond the physical constraints of this reality.

You're all dumbasses this song is about James Hetfield's mom that was diagnosed with cancer and she decided to let God do the healing but she died. James then blamed God for her death look at the lyrics, it feeds cancer feeds and grows in your body. As for the healing hand held back by the deepened nail is his way of saying, God had the power to heal but didn't do anything. He also says follow the god that failed meaning why worship a god wh o doesn't help and is a failure

controversial song | Reviewer: knight5506 | 7/27/12

This song means exactly what you think it means, no more, no less. Remember, we do not see things as they are, but as we are. Now what I believe the song means is that faith in God is preserved even though it appears he has failed. "I see faith in your eyes.", "I hear faith in your cries.", despite the fact that Christ was crucified on the cross, "The healing hand held back by the deepened nail." Faith is seeing light with your heart when your eyes see only darkness. On a final note, matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, they can only change forms. Hence, all that you are does not go away when you die, and therefore life after death is an absolute certainty.

Response to Logic's logic. | Reviewer: PastorUMC | 3/22/12

"There`s evil everywhere.
If your god doesn`t know it, then he isn`t a god.
If he knows it, why doesn`t he stop it?
if he can but doesn`t want to, then he isn`t good and merciful.
If he wants but can`t, then he isn`t almighty.
if he can`t nor wants to, then why call him a god in the first place?"

I just read your post and I am deeply saddened by your words and your logic. While I agree that your post seems to be well thought out, you seem to have overlooked one important piece. I used to feel the same way, but have changed my life and my beliefs.

You seem to have started from the premise that you know and understand God. We can never know and/or understand God entirely, however we can know about God from our persinal experiences of God's grace and glory. I am deeply saddened that you have not been able to recognize God's presence in your life. From my experience, I believe God loves all of us and there is nothing we can do about it! If this is the case, our free will must be taken into account here.
I agree that evil is everywhere, but this evil is a manifestation of human action and our free will, not God's will. If God interceded everytime we were about to make a mistake, we would not have free will to make our own decisions. I believe God wants us to choose love over hate, but if God makes that decision for us, where is our choice?
I also have a little logic problem for you. If God prevented us from feeling the effects of evil, we would never know the existence of evil. If we never knew the existence of evil, we would never look for a God to help us. If we never looked for God, we would be never know love and we would live a shallow, hollow existence without the free will to make our own decisions. I choose to life into a message of love and grace.
You are free to make your own decisions. You are even free to choose not to acknowledge God. That is how God created us to be. I have made my choice. You may choose to agree or not. Either way you have made a choice, that is free will and I believe it is God's will.
As for the song, I have always loved Metallica (I got a little upset over the whole Napster thing though). Master of Puppets is my favorite album. I really like that they speak out against bad "Christians" without speaking against God.

"james is a wank! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/31/11"

Tell that to the teacher who failed to teach you some grammar lessons. Nevertheless, what you're talking is bullshit (as any other ignorant christian). How about bringing some real arguments on your so-called belief, and not just fairy tales that make 6 year olds sleep.
I'm actually asking you for something impossible. I'm asking a christian to actually give a RATIONAL argument.

Good luck ignoring my words and giving me a bible passage as your best argument.

wow | Reviewer: v | 1/6/11

Man you all suck this song is about Christian scientists take it or leave it. Instead of acting like a Damn know it all look up what james has to say about this song. Of course most of you didn't get the luxury of listening to metallica as a child and then into being an adult. You want church bashing listen to deocide. Each of these songs has some heavy turmoil to it. Plus no one cares what your stupid church has to say god is not there he saves no one get over it people are leaving your messiah in the dust.

Extremist Religious Leaders A.K.A BULLSHITERS | Reviewer: Maak | 10/26/10

This song is about the effect that extremist religious leaders have on people, they make lots of promises , they say lots of shit that doesn't belong to god nor to the religion, but they say all the time god says "blagmgtjgtpmgjgtm" bullshit!! people have to know what is their religions about and not to ask a priest about it , we don't need any one to tell us what our god wants or does, we don't need any one to take the place of god and tell us crapy stuff about science, scientists will do that...

Christian Scientist | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/3/10

James stated in an interview that this song is about "Christian Science". His parents were so called "Christian Scientists" or something. They didn´t believe in medicine or a doctor. They said God will heal your sickness, illness, wounds. But he didn´t and his parents died because of it. That´s why the song is called The God That Failed.

Re: The song itself | Reviewer: Lcpl Jon B. USMC | 4/4/10

Listen i dont really know a whole hell of alot about the bible. And quite frankly, in a way, as a Marine i dont really have the luxury of being religious because war will get you killed if you're not focused. When i was in iraq on my second tour, i lost my faith because i came to this realization. Only my fellow Marines and I were going to protect ourselves. Not God. See, y'all have to realize, God is nothing but a middleman. I mean thinkabout it he dont "heal" you when you're sick, the fucking doctors with the degrees heal you. As for James, i kinda understand where he's coming from. My mom left. My dad died last year from congestive heart failure. And a church i used to go would pray and yet he still died. So for me personally, i have nothing against beliving in something greater than yourself. But religion just aint for me. My only religion is being a Marine protecting those that cant deefend themselves. The song itself it makes you think about alot. It makkes you reevaluate your ethics/principles. I have another tour to do. I leave in a week. oorah!

James is a Christian!!! | Reviewer: Casey | 3/29/10

This song is about how James felt that God "failed" in healing his mother, who didn't believe in modern medicine. James has since become Christian, and now when they perform the song live, he says "This song is about something that I didn't believe in but he has actually been here with me the whole time and brought me back to the good times"
